What comes after the jumperoo?

As expected for an 8mo, DS loves trying to move, whether that's rolling, trying to crawl, jumping/standing with support or climbing up on things. Is there anything I could get for him to replace the jumperoo once he outgrows it?

-it's also a handy place to trap him for a few minutes of fun while I do a chore or two in that room-

Push along toys for walking practice I think. I'm trying to think back and all I can remember is jumperoo then walking but I imagine there was a bit in-between.

We had a skip hop table. At the start it functions like a jumperoo but then you take the seat out of the middle and it covers over. Your toddler can pull themselves up on the edge and stand to play with the clip on toys.

there’s an expensive gizmo called a Little Hoppa that was invented long after my baby years but I would have loved something like that, budget permitting.

Tbh all the reading I did suggested jumperoos hindered development, so we haven't bought anything like that for either DD's, who both crawled and walked pretty early. I just let 8 month old DD crawl around and pull herself up on things!

Thanks both :)

He LOVES his jumperoo & plays with the toys while I hold him on the outside too as it's not one he could use on his own like that, so it sounds like an activity table might be the way ahead!

Wish I'd known about the Little Hoppa when we'd been looking for the baby gym onwards (2nd hand though, a quick Google shows new is £400?!).

We didn’t do jumperoo. Just stairgate on the living room door as giant playpen 😁

Actually did have an epic giant playpen for DS2 around that age but can’t fit in current house.

Ah, we'd read the same but the balance being he gets max 10 minutes in it per day. Then he gets the fun, but hopefully isn't affected negatively by it.

We didn't have any in betweens. They went from chasing us around in the jumparoo to walking.

Your jumperoo moved around? Ours is stationary.

Activity tables are great. They won't last long though, but you can almost always pick them up at a charity shop. I used to consider it renting it for a couple of weeks - then take it back and get another one!!!

Playpens and dens are also a winner. We had a pop up tent. Sometimes it went in the garden, sometimes inside. If inside, we'd get toys that lit up in it, or I'd shine a torch on the outside. Even better if you have a projector that rotates.... easily buys you long enough to hang washing or cook dinner!

Ours has a little push along shopping trolley which she fills with anything she wants to take around the house. It was £11.99 in Smyth's.

Ours loved the jumperoo. It's been a while, but from memory, they then loved their walking toy, pushing toy trolleys and prams and generally walking around. They also had balance bikes from about 18 months old and were able to ride proper bikes when they were about 2 1/2. Enjoy Op as it's a cool stage!

We used the baby walkers - a jumperoo type seat thats on a frame with wheels so they can scoot around.

nahwhale · 04/06/2023 21:29

They don't need anything they just free roam
