Hi mums just wondering when if ever did you transition your baby or when did you allow them to sleep with a pillow and blanket my baby's 11 months old now and has always slept in one of those sleeping bag thingys he has a cot pillow and a small cot blanket but I'm just not sure and abit apprehensive of when to let him use them he has a comfort blanket aswell but I don't even allow him to have that I take it off him once he's asleep and I'm just wondering would he sleep better with a blanket not sure

I still use a sleeping bag and she's 2.5! The largest size sleeping bag I've seen is 18-36 months so I guess that's an indication. I think they're good because baby feels secure and cosy and they stay covered throughout the night.

Does your baby sleep well?

We used a sleeping bag until she went into a bed at just under 2.

LittleOwl153 · 03/06/2023 21:35

Mine stayed in the sleeping bag until the cot sides came off and it became a cot/bed (watching her running around in the bag on a wooden floor... ) so 2yrs plus...

Didn't do the pillow / quilt / loose blanket thing until that point either. Baby necks don't need pillows.

Ds was in a sleeping bag until 2½ years old

DD is 13 months and just got a thin toddler pillow which she loves, but she's still in a sleeping bag and will be while she's in a cot.

15 month old in a sleeping bag and I've just introduced a pillow as she has a cold and it really helps her to be raised. She seems much happier with it. Will prob look into a duvet etc when she is 2

100% agree. My 4 year old finally stopped using sleeping bags last month 😂 she slept well in them so I didn’t bother changing them. Now has a duvet and little pillow. She was growing out of them and summer seemed like a good time to transition so she wouldn’t be too cold if the covers came off.

that said, sleeping bags are expensive and all hers were hand me downs. If I’d been paying for new ones, she’d have switched when she outgrew the 18m ones.

We’ve only just transitioned DS out of sleeping bag and cot at age 3…agree with PP, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

Hi yes my baby is still waking through out the night but one time my partner came home from work (he works nights) so he came home around 2am and baby must of woken up and my parter gave him his comfort blanket to get him back to sleep and he must of forgot to take it back off him which I did give him a grilling on it in the morning because I'm petrified of suffocation but that night he slept all the way through until 7am which is good for him so I was just wondering if him transitioning to a blanket would be a better option but many people have advised not yet which I already had doubts anyway this has just confirmed if anything really

How big is the comfort blanket?
Can you not just leave it with him now if its small

It's an actual sized blanket if you know what I mean it isn't small but its thin n it's the only blanket that he will fall asleep I put it in the wash one time and obviously he's got other blankets but you could just tell it wasn't the same he wanted the other one so now we call it his comfort blanket it's big enough to tuck under the mattress and him have it that way but because his bigger now he's probably got the strength to stretch his legs and probably pull it out from tucked under his mattress or maybe I'm just overthinking it

I moved from sleeping bag to duvet and pillow at around 12 months. Actually, we didn't use the pillow for the first few months, just tucked them up with the duvet. So probably pillow from 14/15 months.

Wicksytricksy · 04/06/2023 10:28

I only stopped using a sleeping bag when they started unzipping them and getting out of them during the night.

DD5 has a pillow but I don't think I've ever seen her sleep on it. DS2 doesn't have one at all.

oliveandwell · 04/06/2023 10:53

Could you cut the blanket to comforter size and let him have it?
