Chicken pox???

My almost 3 year old has chicken pox. Had it confirmed at the doctors this morning as nursery wanted it confirming as she'd been on nursery grounds.
Anyway a few questions

She's literally covered from head to toe. She had no spots this morning hence why she went to nursery but now she's covered. Is it normal she has spots in her mouth and her ears?

Also my husbands away for the weekend (typical I know) but can we leave the house? We need milk and stuff but I don't really know what the protocol is.

And is it normal that she's so so irritable. I expected her to be itchy but she's not even itching. She's just angry at the world

Sorry if these seem stupid but I've honestly no idea what I'm doing

Hi! My two have had it in the last 3 weeks. My son first who is almost 4 and my daughter who is almost 2. Both were INFESTED, scalp, mouth, nose, bum crack and in the private parts. In fact my daughter would only stop screaming if I put a cold fannel on her lady parts all night along for the first two nights! However.... 48hours were awful then tbh ok.

SeeingSpots · 02/06/2023 16:23

Sending sympathy were in the same situation hence the user name.

Totally normal to have spots in her mouth and ears and be in a horrid mood unfortunately.

Also unfortunately you can't go out with her until all the spots are crusted over so you'll have to make use of deliveroo or online shopping I'm afraid.

I really wouldn't as much as possible, can someone drop groceries off tonight, or can you arrange a delivery for early tomorrow? Wine too as it was a bumpy ride for us!!

Yes normal for irritability I'm afraid. I'd highly recommend poxclin is clinpox, can't remember the name, a mousse thats helps the itching, and remember, no ibuprofen!!

I would say being irritable is normal as it can make them feel very poorly; I’d recommend piraton and poxclin; get something before tonight as the itching gets worse at night for some children.
Personally I think taking them out is fine if you try to reduce what they touch etc and are sensible; often there is no choice but there’s ways to be considerate. They are contagious days before spots appear so I imagine you’ve been out with them contagious without knowing.

dandeliondaisy · 02/06/2023 16:25

Both of mine were furiously annoyed and angry. Frustrated and bad tempered. Was hideous! Anyway, protocol is not to go out for 5 days or until they've scabbed over. It can be dangerous for pregnant women or vulnerable adults (can cause shingles or some sort of similar virus) Can you get groceries delivered in? We've been house bound for 3 weeks! Also, a child has to spend 15 mins in the same room as a chicken pox infected to catch it. Scary! So infectious.

dandeliondaisy · 02/06/2023 16:25

Also, poxilin, so so good! From
Pharmacy x

LouBanks · 02/06/2023 16:26

Does anyone know if this is the start of chickenpox? I took him to the dr earlier but they said they didn’t know what it was. It’s like this all over his back stomach and bum.

my 4 yo had it January 2022 so it’s not like she’s brought it home so I’m stumped.

if anyone’s seen anything similar on their own kids would you let me know what it was please?

thank you x

Ooh yay housebound with an angry small human.
I'll use deliveroo tonight but I'll see if my neighbours can Bob to asda tomorrow for me as we usually help one another out.
I send sympathy to everyone going thru this because quite frankly it's awful. I feel so bad that I sent her to nursery but she didn't have a single spot. Now she's covered.
Is it OK to play outside in our own garden?

Oh god yes get her out in the garden it's been sanity saving.

@SeeingSpots I love the username. We are definitely going to be going in the garden. My front room looks like I've been burgled and we are only on hour 7

My house looks like I've taken everything I own and tipped it into a pile, which is essentially what's happened to be honest. We're on day 3 and he's both miserable and pissed off at the world whilst simultaneously full of energy and wanting to cause maximum destruction!

AliceMcK · 02/06/2023 16:36

If you need to go out go out. She’s been contagious for some time before you knew she had them so has already been out and about. One of mine got them as we were boarding a ferry for a 6 hour journey, there was nothing we could do about it, we saw 1 spot as boarding, by the time we docked she was covered head to toe. We couldn’t exactly keep her isolated.

Just keep her away from people and wipe down the trolley afterwards.

Get some porridge oats and bathe her as much as possible with them. Put some in an old sock and put it in the bath, she can rub it on herself if she wants it will help keep the itch down and cool her off.

sugaryouth1 · 02/06/2023 16:36

Looking at the pros of the situation. We are practicing our counting by seeing how many spots we can count. Whatever gets us to bedtime I suppose

If you dont already know do not give any ibuprofen - it can drive the virus deeper & cause more severe illness. Paracetamol is fine. Oat baths & all the other suggestions are good.

That looks more like a viral rash to me, my youngest DD has one at the moment, she’s been a bit grumpy and snotty nose so will make sense, but I’m not a Dr or nurse.

My oldest always gets viral rashes when she’s coming to the end of something.

It could also be a heat rash I suppose.

sugaryouth1 · 05/06/2023 09:06

So we are on day 4. I loathe chickenpox

So some spots are scabbing over, some are still not. Do all have to scab over before I can release the feral child? We've been in the garden but I think she's getting very very very bored and frustrated
Secondly she's absolutely exhausted..she's not napped for 4 months and now she's back to 2 a day. Is this normal?
Honestly I feel so confused

Taking them out is really not fine. Yes they will have unfortunately been out before the chickenpox was identified, but there's no need to knowingly put others at risk surely? Chickenpox is dangerous to people who are pregnant or otherwise vulnerable. I realise sometimes there are extenuating circumstances, but stay away from others if at all possible.
Good luck OP, hope they're feeling better soon.

Marynotsocontrary · 05/06/2023 09:24

The napping is normal, don't worry about that. The body needs to rest and heal. I think all the spots need to be crusted over unfortunately before being around others. Is there anywhere you can go where you wouldn't meet anybody?

sugaryouth1 · 05/06/2023 09:59

@Marynotsocontrary we've got a massive field at the end of the street. I might take her there just for half an hour.. she's so so bored and I can't say I blame her

OP posts:
AliceMcK · 05/06/2023 22:26

It’s a viral infection so normal to be tired like other viruses, my oldest regressed into nappies and was shattered for weeks even after the spots cleared. Running around a fields sounds fun x

Hi!

anxiety overload!!!

arrived In Greece last Thursday and my son came out in chicken pox so have been isolating in our room so we obviously don’t spread it to anyone especially those vulnerable. We have been in contact with the doctor about this and had to get some antibiotics as son was quite poorly and some spots were infected. We are on day 6 now and I would say most of the spots have scabbed over. My concern is we are due to fly home on Thursday and have to see the doctor tomorrow for him to hopefully give us a fit to fly certificate. I am so anxious that he won’t issue one and we will be stuck here. I know we need to contact our travel insurance to check where we stand etc but I am just after some advice if this has happened to anyone else whilst on holiday and what your experience has been? Surely the spots will all be scabbed over by day 7!?
