Coming off formula

11 month old has been on a dairy free formula for about 5 months due to severe eczema. His eczema did get better but we were never sure if it was dairy (currently waiting to see dermatology and allergy but its been 5 months so ....)

He was dairy free until 9 months when we slowly reintroduced cheese but still on the formula. He tolerates cheese fine. No flare ups or any other symptoms with it. He's had products with milk in but not milk. He's been ok with these but not ice cream last week. Big fail.

Now we are nearly at the point of "cows milk". My GP just said try it, which we will but didn't actually answer my question of what if he flares up...! My HV hasn't answered my text since 1997 (im dramatic but I asked them 3 weeks ago)

Dairy free mummas - what milk did you use? Just trying to think ahead of options if cows milk fails

Alpro growing up milk, soya or oat. My little boy loves the soya. It's well fortified and tastes like vanilla custard!

Alpro oat milk, it’s the growing up, has a monkey on the box and is fortified. But we’ve still got her neocate on prescription until she’s 18 months

If you do try Cow's Milk, see if you can get hold of some Sterilised Milk. It's treated at a higher temperature so the proteins are broken down more.

I've got CMPA and could sometimes tolerate sterilised milk.

My baby has been dairy free since 3 weeks old. We've been asked by the dietitian to try milk products. I still haven't and this was 4 weeks ago now.
My baby has had alpro growing up milk in his cereal and porridge for a few months now. He's recently started to have mixed formula with alpro growing up milk. Over the next week or so we will convert completely as the doctors won't prescribe anymore formula as he's just over 1. If I can get baby on to whole milk then I will eventually but sticking to alpro soya - tastes nice and sweet.

DD1 had soya growing up milk but DD2 was allergic to dairy and soya (soya reaction was far worse) and she drinks Oatley Barista although when she was little she mostly drank chocolate Oatly.

No, don't go straight to cows milk. You need to introduce it slowly - even if there's no allergy the lack of lactose in diet will mean he will react to large abmounts of dairy if introduced suddenly. There are plant based drinks suitable for toddlers maybe try one of those

I found the Alpro Growing Up Milk so sweet, and my DD firmly rejected it too, surprisingly. I did a bit of research to find the best non-dairy milk for children and decided on the M&S unsweetened soya milk. It has a slight flavour so tastes nice despite no sugar, and it's fortified with iodine. She made the switch straight away one night with no issues, she drinks it up happily.

Unless you shop there specifically though it does mean an extra trip!
