Boys/Girls Pull Ups

DS is fully toilet trained in day but still in pull ups at night. He has the Huggies pull ups night time pants which I usually order as part of online shop and they have a cars theme. However today he was with me when we popped in to shop to stock up. They had two types - our usual cars themed "boys" or sleeping beauty "girls" He saw the sleeping beauty ones and wanted those, I tried to direct him to his usual but he was having none of it. I didn't want to have to say these are only for girls. We ended up getting one of each as they were on a 2 for something offer but what I'm wondering now is there actually any difference between "boys" and "girls" pull ups or is it just a stereotypical branding thing to appeal to kids? More than happy to put a boy in a pink pull up but don't want it to cause a wet bed if they are designed differently.

Most of the Huggies nappies are gendered. My understanding is that the most absorbent areas are in different places for boys and girls depending on where the most pee is likely to end up. It's annoying that they use such obvious stereotypes though.

From the Huggies website:
"In order to meet their different absorbency needs, the nappies for boys are designed with a unique surge layer placed in the front of the nappy, while it is placed lower down for girls."

Thanks for this, we'd never used pampers before the night time pull ups so didn't realise. He's been going on about wearing his princess nappy tonight so that's going to be a fun battle trying to explain absorbency to a 2 year old 😂

I'd just try them - I seriously doubt there's that much difference in it that a 'girls' one will result in a wet bed. It's likely 90% marketing. It's also not setting a great message to DC re. Gender stereotypes and not being allowed 'girls' things (although I know in this case that's not your fault!)

For anyone who comes across this, he wore his princess nappy and no leakage over an 11 hour nights wear 😊

Like someone said I think it’s mainly a market thing, I have put the princess ones on my nephew when he’s stayed before and forgot his night nappy and we had no leaks. Alternatively you could switch to a supermarket brand nappy pants where they are a bit more plain designed.

Really? Even nappies are pushing gender stereotypes?! For goodness sake 🤦‍♀️ glad it went okay OP. Personally I'd change brands completely...

Gendered nonsense they may be but they helped when my 3YO was potty trained but not dry overnight and didn’t want to wear a nappy to bed as nappies are for babies and she was a big girl 🤷‍♀️It would help if they put the absorbency everywhere though and remove the ‘boy’ and ‘girl’ labelling so they could just choose their own design without all of that sexist rubbish.
