So what do you do when first child is at playgroup everyday in the morning with the younger child?

All the Mother and toddler groups seem to be in the afternoon, there isn't time in the 2 and half hours ds is at playgroup to get to a morning class. Dd seems quite content to just be with me and tbh I'm quite glad not to be going to the groups any more. What do others do?

I

(a) do a little housework
(b) play with DD
(c) let her potter around and I go on Mumsnet .

How old is your DD?

posieflump · 20/02/2008 11:53

she is 17 months
so you don't bother with the rigmarole we went through with first child - rhyme time at the library, toddler groups etc

I have 2yo DD2 with me whilst DD1 is at nursery for her 2 1/2 hours

Monday - shopping and/or housework then we all go a friends for lunch or she comes here
Tues - toddlers we leave a bit earlier to pick up DD1
Weds - music group it finished at 11.15am so time to pick up DD1
Thurs - toddlers
Fri - go shopping have a brunch in a cafe

Toddler groups more for me cup of tea and a chat with some grown ups.

We go to a music class
Sometimes see a friend for coffee (sometimes with another baby)
Shopping/chores/housework
My LO can play in the lounge without DS taking every toy off her!

aha, so sweetkitty you have toddler groups that are in the morning?
where we are the playgroups are in the church hall, the same place as toddlers, so playgroup in the mornings, toddlers in the afternoons
I did take ds to toddlers as well as dd at first but he was tired from plagroup, it was all a bit rush and he wasn't very wellbehaved

both older kids now at school

do 'nothing' with dd3 apart from cart her round to endless friends houses for cups of coffee

posieflump · 20/02/2008 11:59

now that sounds more like it Enid!
It is funny how with PFB we went to everything thinking he would miss out on interacting with other babies but now that I have made friends from such things we can just go to each other's houses without sitting in a freezing church hall drinking weak tea

Strange to have toddler groups in the afternoons as thats when they generally have their naps.

What about going swimming with your DD? It's nice just to spend some time one to one even if it's plodding round Tescos or something and a coffee afterwards.

TBH I think DD2 is more than happy playing by herself in the house for a few hours.

Actually I think we go to more things with our first so we can get out and meet other adults. I know I did. Once you have a busy life at home with several cghildren it is no longer necessary.

I never though Mother and baby/toddler was about ds more about me getting out and talking to other adults with children

The only exception to this was that as ds got older and more mobile, toddler groups provided more space for him than he had in our small flat on rainy days.
