Am I being irrational and dogmatic?

My HV (equivalent - we're in Sweden) has recommended that I get DD (5 weeks) a dummy. Every inch of me winced and thought "Aargh - Nooooo". Presumably she could tell from my face that I wasn't keen asked me why, and was it an English thing. Despite my kneejerk reaction I couldn't actually think of an answer. So is there anything wrong with dummies or am I just being a bit ridiculous?

I think dummies are ok. Serve a purpose and you can get rid of them. Can't thrown a thin thumb in teh bin.

oh, I've said the same as quattro.

(dd2 is 9 and still sucks half her life away)

I used one because you can get rid of a dummy but not a thumb . He didnt have one at night though . No bloody way was I getting up in the night to find a dummy LOL

LOL. We can together Wats! Don't fret about the cereal bar - it's highly unlikely your LO's teeth will have fallen out by this afternoon (and if they have I would strongly suspect it had fark all to do with the bar! ) Just brush her teeth when she gets in and don't give one tomorrow if you really are worried about it.

I was always anti dummies (again no real good reason) I was so proud of myself for having a dummyless dd1 . . .
Then dd2 arrived - the baby who could suck a bowling ball through a hose pipe. She was a colicky unsettled baby, always feeding, always puking . . until one day I popped in a dummy out of sheer desperation. Magic, happier, less feedy and less sicky!!! She stopped using it about the time she could find and pick up other things to chew on (generally food dropped by dd1)

My dentist said he thought dummies were preferablr for sucky babes becasue tehy can be removed & rationed & they aren't as hard as a thumb which you tend to lean on when sucking & it pushes the teeth out.

My DD is just 13 & STILL sucks her thumb when tired & may need a brace but it's interesting hettie that none of you were....maybe there's a hereditary pre-disosition to buck teeth /sucking?
