Tooth fell out at 5,5, ok?

Oh I'm freaking out a bit. My little one was just eating dinner and then all of a sudden her tooth became loose and is now only half there. It is a middle at the bottom. She was only chewing broccoli 😱
Is it a norm? To loose teeth so early? She is 5,5

She got them early too. At 4 months she had her first one.

How do you mean only half there? Has it broken?

If it’s just loose, 5 is a normal age. My daughter lost both her bottom front teeth at aged 4, which was a little early but the dentist wasn’t concerned.

Garman · 26/05/2023 18:52

That’s a totally normal age to loose teeth? But not sure what you mean by the half bit.

HeartOrHeadDecision · 26/05/2023 18:53

Yes. Just loose, it bent 90* but is still there. She had a bit of blood. Oh I wasn't ready for that 😱

Do we keep waiting for it to fall out itself?

5 is a perfectly normal age to start to get wobbly teeth. It’s fine, stop worrying and remember to make sure you have a shiny tooth fairy coin ready for the day it comes out.

Saschka · 26/05/2023 18:54

5 is a normal age. Half of DS’s class have lost teeth already - his best friend just turned 6, and has lost 4. DS also just turned 6 and is extremely jealous!

BriocheForBreakfast · 26/05/2023 18:55

My daughter was just about to turn 5 when she lost her first teeth. The two front ones at the bottom. She was sitting on her cousin's lap (3 years older) and she slipped and bashed her chin on a table. Two days later the teeth were out. The dentist said that it was fine and the roots would have been shallow which is why they came out easily.

NewAnon · 26/05/2023 18:55

5 is a normal age, DD is 6 and has lost 3 now.

BriocheForBreakfast · 26/05/2023 18:56

And my daughter started teething around 5 months

FloweryName · 26/05/2023 18:57

Yes, just leave it to do its own thing for a few days. Your dd will naturally be inclined to mess around with it to help it on its way and that’s fine.

shakeitoffsis · 26/05/2023 19:07

Totally normal.

PurplePositivity · 26/05/2023 19:08

Perfectly normal, makes me feel gippy!

My DSs never showed me wobbly teeth but my darling nieces used to eat apples to make be feel Envy the little darlings Grin

WonderingWanda · 26/05/2023 19:10

If it's hanging on by a thread and really annoying her a bit of dental floss looped and crossed round it can be gently tightened to remove it, only if you are totally sure it's just a flap of skin and not the root though.

Sauvignonblanket · 26/05/2023 19:11

The bottom middle two are usually the first to come out so it does sound right from that pov too

FlounderingFruitcake · 26/05/2023 19:15

5 is normal and the bottom 2 are usually the first 2 to go. DD is in Y1 and every day someone is having major tooth dramas. Just leave it alone, it’ll no doubt fall out soon but have a £1 coin ready if you’re inclined to do the tooth fairy.

HandScreen · 26/05/2023 19:18

Lol, what age did you think they would start to fall out at?!

HeartOrHeadDecision · 26/05/2023 19:43

I though after 6. She never complained they are wobbly. Out of the blue!

If it makes you feel better I also thought it wasn't until age 7 or 8. DD5 mentioned a few in her class have wobbly teeth (reception) and I also don't feel prepared!

Qilin · 26/05/2023 19:49

5 is pretty normal for first teeth to come out tbh. We often have children losing their first teeth.
Dd was the later end - last in her class - at 7y and in the summer holidays after year 2.

TinaTotal · 26/05/2023 20:10

I think the general guidance is age 6 so 5.5 doesn't seem out of the ordinary. All of my children have been exceptionally late with their teeth. Not cutting first tooth til around 11 months and still have baby teeth well into the teens!

This happened to us. We were in an airport!

Lastminutebride · 26/05/2023 20:12

Yes totally normal. My daughters started falling out at age 4. She’s now nearly 6 and has lost 5 so far

CocoPlum · 26/05/2023 20:16

5.5-6 is probably average but it's a very broad range. Mine were 4.5 years when they lost their first ones, but one of DS's classmates still had all her baby teeth at age 8!

MavisStrop · 26/05/2023 20:18

This is normal.
My Dd lost her first tooth in reception, aged 5. I wasn't expecting it at all as it wasn't wobbly and just came out with a bite of an apple!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/05/2023 20:24

Normal! Completely normal!

DD had lost some teeth before she even started reception!

HeartOrHeadDecision · 26/05/2023 20:42

Oh! Thank you for reassurance! We had a a bit of a meltdown of course but now she is super proud and has been only talking about her tooth all importantly. The one next to the drama tooth turned out to be wobbly too.

That's a milestone!
