Free School Milk Alternative

Sorry if this has been asked before. My 4 year old is starting school in September and he has a cows milk allergy. We've just been notified all other pupils will get free milk as part of the school day but there are no diary free alternatives. Has anyone found a good size carton their child can take in with them instead, or has had success with a small insulated bottle? looking for recommendations!

Does he like soya? You can get small ones of Alpro growing up milk.

My ds just had water. Most schools have snack at the same time so fruit is available so as long as he is getting his recommended daily calcium from the rest of his diet I wouldn't worry to much (unless he really wants an alternative).

All the children I've taught who have been in this situation just ended up having water. To be honest a large amount of the children don't want to drink the milk anyway so also had water so he wouldn't stand out if that was your concern.

Yes, @MuffinToSeeHere , there was quite a few in ds class who chose not to have milk, so definitely not the odd one out.

My son has this one in bottles and likes it. That's what I'll be sending him into school with if they're passing out cow's milk.

In the 90s I was given a carton of orange juice instead. Not sure if schools would do this now.

My daughter doesn't like milk so just had water, by year 1 when you have to pay only half the class had milk.

Neither if my ds qualified for free milk as they were both 5 by the time they started school (don’t get me started on how stupid that rule is). They were by no means the only ones not having milk. (I think my eldest was actually offered milk anyway, because there were enough in the class who didn’t want it / couldn’t have it),
