Cluelessfirstimer · 25/05/2023 09:30

Have a 11 month old DS currently. We plan to have one more in the next 2 years.
What can be saved and what should I always buy new? Sorry If any of this sounds daft. Just trying to save some ££ like 99% of the population right now..!

I plan on defining keeping
Some clothes
Pram
Cot and next to me crib
Some toys
Some muslins/bibs

Items below im unsure of....?

Prep machine
Bottles (?)
Steraliser

Anything I'm missing....??

Thank you!

I'd keep the prep machine and steriliser but treat baby to new bottles.

Yeah I was very unsure om the bottles- didn't seem hygienic to me but mum mentioned it (late 80s baby myself so regularly encouraged to eat mud and have as many germs and hand me downs as possible...!)

Thanks for your reply!

Get rid of chew type toys (like Sophie giraffe) and agree get new bottles. We also replaced bibs but muslins washed fine. Otherwise we reused pretty much everything, including clothes to the horror of my MIL (babies different sexes).

The bottles themselves are easy enough to sterilize and if they’re in good condition it’s not necessarily an issue. But it’s good practice to replace all the silicone bottle teats. Fair enough if want to replace the whole bottle though, especially the smaller size ones you use with a newborn.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 25/05/2023 09:39

I'd keep the bottles, maybe just buy new teats

Carryonkeepinggoing · 25/05/2023 09:41

I’d consider replacing the cot mattress - although if it has a proper waterproof cover you can wash then you might not need to. But if the mattress has been wet (from vomit, wee etc) and there’s a chance it could have grown some mould I’d replace it.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 25/05/2023 09:41

Bottles are one of the few things that get sterilised, why on earth would you need to replace them?

Cluelessfirstimer · 25/05/2023 15:00

Thats a good point - I may hang on to some of the bottles but get all new teets. To be honest my DS has chewed most of them anyway so they wouldn't be much good.

I kept all the clothes that weren't too stained and all the toys, I think I only brought a handful of clothes till DS was about 18 months. I brought a new mattress for the cot but kept all the bedding. New bottles but kept the prep machine and steriliser.

We kept everything except the bottles. We also kept literally every piece of clothing from our son. Now that we're expecting a girl, we've sold bundles of boys clothes on marketplace and used that money to buy bundles of girls clothes instead, so I'm glad we kept it all.
