Climbing frame or trampoline

Looking to get either a large climbing frame with swings/slide etc or trampoline.

Which will have more longevity? Kids 5 and 3.

Mine used the trampoline more.

WithASpider · 24/05/2023 14:06

Climbing frame. Unless you start with a massive trampoline you'll have to replace it every couple of years as they grow.

I'd probably get a TP toys frame as you can add/take away bits to suit.

BeautifulBirds · 24/05/2023 14:07

Got rid of the trampoline due to accidents, replaced with climbing frame, swings and slide.

Everyone's happy.

My DDs are 10&near 12, we've had the trampoline for 6 years and they still use it a lot.

Weve just removed the swing (one of the giant net ones).

Climbing frame would have been outgrown long ago as they need a big one to interest them now.

MelonsOnSaleAgain · 24/05/2023 14:19

We still have both and both get used a lot in summer but the trampoline is used all year round!

greenmarsupial · 24/05/2023 14:19

We had a trampoline in our old house and now have a climbing frame:

I think the frame is great as you can put a cover over it and make it a tent, it can be lots of things. It also lets the light through so you don't end up with dead grass.

The kids eventually went off both though because of spiders and general outside-ness 🙄 but their friends go straight for the climbing frame when they come over.

Trampoline

curtainsfringe · 24/05/2023 16:11

anyone recommend a brand of trampolines

Weallgottachangesometime · 24/05/2023 16:15

Mine 6 and 9 use the trampoline we have a lot, but it is a large one. They literally use it daily. my son, who I am
certain is ND uses it a lot and he has a routine of bouncing before bed. Seems to calm him I guess because of the movement.

We used to have a swing and climbing frame but they out grew it quickly. After 4ish they both liked climbing very high so the climbing frame wasn’t a chill age anymore. Unless you are talking a large set then I wouldn’t bother.

trampolines do require work to keep safe though, checking netting, pinning down properly and putting net down in high wind.

changewhale · 24/05/2023 16:17

Absolutely not a trampoline. They are so dangerous.

CoffeeWithCheese · 24/05/2023 16:19

We bought a Quadro frame at the start of lockdown and I've added to it as we've had cash - so it's now able to be made into a pretty large and decent climbing frame (or you can get the pool liners and slide bits to make it into one of those when they've got them in stock). The thing has had four 10 year olds hanging off it and not batted an eyelid strain wise, despite being made of plastic.

We got rid of our old 6 foot trampoline recently when we moved house (couldn't dismantle it easily and the kids had really outgrown that one - but it was all the old garden could fit) but the kids have requested we get a new one now we have the bigger garden. Like someone else mentioned, bouncing helps DD2 regulate a lot. DD1 would love another swing but she's really too big for the ones sold for garden use now, and we've got a playground across the road so that's not likely to be happening again, but they do build the Quadro up to make their own swing bars to dangle off.

MumLass · 24/05/2023 16:20

Trampoline. We are blessed with a big garden and have swings, climbing frame, big nest swing and a trampoline. The trampoline is the only thing they still use (age 8 and 13)

Jellylover · 24/05/2023 16:22

Trampoline - but pay someone to dig a big hole and sink it into the ground.

MuffinToSeeHere · 24/05/2023 16:22

Trampoline.

Yes they can be dangerous and a cause of many accidents but unless you're spending hundred and hundreds of pounds a climbing frame isn't going to entertain them for long as they will soon outgrow it.

At least with the trampoline you will have years of use.

Matilda1981 · 24/05/2023 16:24

Trampoline! Mine are 11,9.4 and 3 and that gets used most out of the stuff we have!

booktokbear · 24/05/2023 16:24

Trampoline. My boy 10 still uses it daily, we upgraded to a bigger one but it's the only thing he's consistently used. Brilliant energy user!

00100001 · 24/05/2023 16:51

Trampoline.

Branchingout2000 · 24/05/2023 16:56

Large trampoline with net.
Ours used it for years and years.

DiDonk · 24/05/2023 17:48

We had both, it was the trampo which lasted all the way up to teens. Never had any accidents thankfully despite having half the class on there once or twice.

Also incredibly tiring so must be good exercise!

Jumpykids · 26/05/2023 14:12

Really interesting & helpful! Thank you all.
