Is this normal 6 year old behaviour?

Hi,
can someone help me please, I am starting to loose my patience with my 6 year old son.
So, he is such a hard work when it comes to his self care, or doing anything that is good for him for that matter.
He wakes up in the morning, I have to tell him to get dressed, really go into details like “please put your pants on, now socks and then T-shirt, etc etc.” If I do not put his clothes out ready for him, he has no clue where to get them from, even though I have been showing him for years where his clothes are. He hates food, would never ask for breakfast or dinner, it takes him about two hours to pick few bits off his plate.
I thought he will just grow out of it but I am not sure how long can it carry on? I just don’t know what to do with this boy anymore, I find it easier to leave the house with my 1 year old.
We tried timing challenges, charts, rewards and nothing works

With so many things with our kids it can be totally normal, or an indicator of something else, and it is so hard to say.

I don't think it is unusual though to have to nag 6 year olds to get dressed, and help them find their clothes.
Most would rather stay in pjs all day.
What is slightly unusual is that once he is getting dressed he can't then do all of it, T-shirt, trousers etc. I wonder if he REALLY can't or just doesn't want to, would happily run round in pants and T-shirt? (which sounds pretty normal!)

With food, some kids are just not that bothered, I think the key is to sit down together for meals, both at the table, food on offer and you eat yours and he has his. Basic rule is that you stay at the table until lunchtime is finished, chatting and talking and eating. After 20 minutes, lunch is over and he goes off to play, regardless of how much is eaten. I find that a lot more is eaten when you are anchored at the table and have to stay.

It is worth writing down exactly how much he does eat, to see if it really is not much or if he is grazing more than you think. Also the best test of food intake is if he continues to put on weight and grow.

This is not normal for my 6 year old son. But then all kids are different!

Not normal for my 6yr

She chooses own clothes. Gets dressed

Will get own breakie of cereal /brioche if hungry and I'm still getting dressed

Seems to be a bottomless pit on holidays. Breakfasts. Snack. Maybe another snack. Lunch. Snack. Tea. Etx

Whether it's 'normal' or not really depends on why these things are hard for him

DD6 will take an AGE to get her uniform on for school, and may spend several minutes putting her one sock on wrong time and time again. BUT she can make 3-5 quick outfit changes a day at lightening speed, if she's in the mood for it (and wants to prance into the kitchen dressed as a princess cat).

She will also take an AGE to eat any sort of wholesome meal, but will eat plates and plates of fruit, and can down Burger King in about 30 seconds.

Really it's more about what she's being asked to do, vs. what she can do.

ps for avoidance of doubt she's had a Burger King three times in her life, I'm not upholding it as a good dietary choice.
