Teething canines - how long?

My 15 month old is having a terrible time with all 4 of his canines erupting at once. This means we’re having a terrible time too!! 😫 There are a lot of tears, tantrums, and massively disrupted sleep.

How long did it take your DCs canines to come through? Just trying to get a sense of how long we need to hang in here 😆

One canine took about a month to come in. We're still waiting on the other three. I can see it but they're yet to break through!

Felt like forever, sorry 🤣 Canines were the worst for my DD too, the others were a breeze in comparison!

Canines were the worst for us, bothered her more than the last huge molars she's just got. Once they cut though she was instantly less fussy. Hope they come through soon 🤞.

Thanks everyone. He’s come down with a chest infection and nasty cough on top of the teething woes 😣

My DD (16 months) is so upset at the moment, she’s waking 2/3 times after going down to sleep before settling and she’s having real crying outbursts, not wanting to be cuddled and her appetite has decreased. I think her canines are coming; she was a bit better tonight after nurofen and anebesol so I’ll carry on with that. These seem to be the worst ones so far!

So I’m bumping this thread for experience and tips! How is your LO doing @MyUsernameIsBetterThanYours ?

They are taking for ages for us too, at least 3 weeks so far (14 month old). I’m worried about how often we’ve given Calpol or Nurofen over the last few weeks but she just seems like she’s in so much pain I don’t know what else to do.

MyUsernameIsBetterThanYours · 20/09/2023 08:34

Hi @wishIwasonholiday10 ours aren’t through yet! He had a really bad time with them for maybe 3 weeks (it felt like FOREVER when we were going through it) to the point where we took him to the GP to make sure nothing else was going on. We had to get the GP to write a letter for the nursery to keep giving calpol because they had a 2 day limit. Like you I worried about the constant Calpol but he was genuinely in pain so what else can you do?

But then it just stopped. I think they’re on the move again now because he’s chomping on his hand again.

Thank you @wishIwasonholiday10 and @MyUsernameIsBetterThanYours , it sounds like we are in for the long haul then!

I honestly don’t worry about giving too much pain relief if they are in so much distress, I’ve given a 2.5ml dose of nurofen before bed every night for over a week during the worst times. I don’t tend to give calpol or nurofen during the day when DD is distracted and happier, but night times are always worse. I’m using anbesol as well.

MyUsernameIsBetterThanYours · 20/09/2023 21:48

@TashieWoo yes good luck to all of us 😬

Hope you get a bit of respite from it soon, it really is awful when they’re in the thick of it. I think it was only looking back on it, once he was behaving normally again, that I properly realised how much his teeth must have been bothering him.

At the moment DD is refusing her bedtime bottle then waking up every 30 mins for a few hours after I put her down to sleep before doing a longer stretch from about midnight. She is refusing milk but happy to be cuddled back to sleep, does that sound like teething? She was never this uncomfortable with the others. It’s so hard 😥
