Can I stop sterilising and using formula?

Baby is 1 year’s old in two weeks. I have a couple of sterilising tablets left and a couple of days of formula left.

DC has whole milk in cereal and likes it but not given as a drink yet.

DH is very keen to put DC on milk now, can I just start giving milk before turning 1?

And do I need to buy another pack of sterilising tablets or can I stop that when they run out? Thank you

Nothing magical happens to their insides at midnight when they turn 1, so for the sake of a week or something go for it.

Have you got a dishwasher, just use that

I stopped sterlising once they were mobile enough to be crawling around and putting everything in their mouth. I would swap to cow's milk now especially if you are using vitamin drops.

You don't need to sterilise by 1 y/o.

You don't need to give formula from 1 y/o you give full fat milk instead.

This is what current guidance says by the way

As others have said, absolutely fine to ditch the sterilising tablets. And if they are fine drinking cows milk then defo no need to buy a new formula for the sake of 2 weeks.

It used to be advised at 6 months and babies survived perfectly well. I'd certainly go for it

BertieBotts · 21/05/2023 21:11

Yes, I would.

Sounds fine! Nothing magic happens when they turn 1, she’s almost there and if eating well and happy to have cows milk I’d make the switch now. Sterilising is also only if using formula and is not needed if on cows milk so no need for that either.
