Bodysuits - can they be used in the day for tops?

Sorry this may sound like a silly question but I was just wondering if you ever dress your baby in a body suit with lets say a cardigan and leggings? or they usually only worn for sleeping? I'm very clueless as this will be my first!

I use them as a vest under clothes mostly- both night and day. However when it was very hot last summer she sometimes wore either just a vest or vest and thin trousers

Of course!

Yes. I did this in warmer weather. A bodysuit and shorts.

Yes, both my babies used to wear bodysuits with cardigans and leggings. They’d sometimes wear the short sleeve ones under a long sleeve top with leggings, but the long sleeve bodysuits were always worn as a top.

Thank you everyone, very helpful, I think it makes sense to use them esp when it's hot (she is due July 4th)

I don’t like the way they look tucked into bottoms with a podgy baby tummy so never did it, but that’s completely a personal preference thing, there’s no rule to say you can’t! I only put them under things when it was chilly.

Oh definitely! Bodysuits are great for helping the nappy stay roughly where it should be and in summer there'll be days when you don't want a vest AND a top. I never liked mine in just tops, until they were crawling (ish), so they often had a vest as a top sort of scenario when it was warm. They do look a bit odd like that though, I agree with PP!

Pr1mr0se · 18/05/2023 12:10

Yes.

trrk · 18/05/2023 12:41

Yes. They keep the nappy on and don't ride up like T-shirts do. Mine was born in a heatwave and mostly wore them as her only clothing while indoors for the first few weeks. Short sleeve and short legged rompers are quite cute too for summer babies.

NuffSaidSam · 18/05/2023 12:54

You can dress your baby however you like as long as it's comfortable and practical for the baby (not scratchy or too tight or trips them up when they crawl etc).

Just a vest is ideal for those sweaty summer days.

You can get some with really nice colours and patterns so definitely! Look at some and think what a shame to cover with another top.

Iguanainanigloo · 18/05/2023 13:18

Yes definitely. The poppers keep the nappy in place, and they don't ruffle up and expose their skin when you pick them up. My dds used to wear bodysuits, short sleeved/sleeveless/long sleeved depending on the weather, until they were out of nappies! They'd obviously wear a baby grow or jumper and leggings over the top in colder weather, but in warmer weather they'd just have a short sleeved body suit, with skirts, shorts etc. Even had some romper style ones which were like a short sleeved body with longer leg bits, almost like shorts, which were great when they started crawling around.

AegonT · 19/05/2023 13:39

The ones with short sleeves are the best baby T-shirts as they don't ride up. Great with leggings, joggers or shorts or under dungerees.

Caterina99 · 19/05/2023 13:47

Yes mine wore them as general tops until they were walking basically.

Regular t shirts etc ride up when they’re lying down and crawling. Plus it allows little hands to reach nappies more easily
