Can newborn get sunburn in carrycot in summer

Hi all

I took my newborn out for a stroll in the carrycot with the mesh ventilation flap open for airflow (at back lower of carrycot hood) and noticed it let's a lot of sunlight in that gets on babies face/head as we walk and the sun moves inside carrycot, could this give her sunburn so would I need to protect her head with a hat? Just wondering what others did as I thought the point of ventilation was to keep baby cool and a hat would defeat the point.

I'm a first time mam to a summer newborn and wondering what to do as suncream not recommended for under 6 month old.

The mamas and papas website says the hood of the carrycot is upf 50 but it doesn't state about the ventilation flap I emailed them but they didn't reply.

Well yes, she could. Do you need the ventilation flap open while walking? I would just leave it closed if she'll be in the sun, and open when you're in the shade.

You could get an umbrella (though I found them ridiculously faffy and difficult to get in the right place). I used a Snoozeshade which was brilliant, nice and dark for naps but plenty of airflow.

Yes love, the tiny one will pick up suns rays even on a dull day just by being outside i reckon

I know of babies that got sun burnt by the reflection off a white wall getting under the canopy.

You have to be careful.

Baby should never be in the sun under 6 months. You don’t need the ventilation flap open.

Shut the flap. it doesn't need to be open

Yes

You can a parasol that clips on to the pram, we just got one on Amazon.
They’re a pain in the arse tbh, always getting in the way but we did get some use out of it on very hot days.

Thanks everyone mamas and papas got back to me and said the mesh will still protect from burns and has been safety tested but I still wasn't so sure so I've ordered a snoozeshade, looks like it blocks light from all angles while keeping baby ventilated so that will put my mind at ease! Just don't want her getting to hot but also not burning on our walks out soon!

You'll find the hood does a better job of protecting her from the sun (and heat), keeping the sun out reduces the heat dramatically. The ventilation flap isn't needed. Sun protection is more important
