Hi

I am 37 yrs of age and have a only 7 year old ds.

I feel like such a old mom especially at the school gates.

All of my ds's mates moms are in their early twenties.
I feel ancient.
Does anybody feel like this.

I'm 37 and have to say, that no, I don't particularly feel too ancient... Having said that, we have just moved back to Milan, where yes, the average mum seems to be older than in the UK.

Armidillo, our preschool is the same. I am 24 and the youngest by a mile. And I am almost certainly the youngest at most of our toddler groups. Do you find that you get a kind of reverse rejection? We hardly ever get asked anywhere by other mums, but I think that is because they maybe think that I wouldn't want to be friends with them as they are older? I know that one mum who I am friendly with told me that she worked up to asking me for a playdate for ages because she thought I would laugh.

I don't really think it is a problem, motherhood is such a common ground.

I'a 42 with an 8yo(next month) and my 3 closest friends at the school gates age around 30, but my dd gets upset when she hears my age and says "but your only 21 mummy" bless

bigwombat · 19/02/2008 21:38

Yes I do feel pretty old where I live now - 40 with an 8yr old and 6 yr old. Most of the Mums are definitely a bit younger.

I'm 43 soon and dd is 7, so I was pretty old when she was born, but I don't often feel it. Probably cos a lot of mums are nearer my age than not! Having said that I typically made friends with one of the youngest mums there, then had to admit that I was nearly the same age as HER mum! Very scary!!!!!

Enjoy your age...it means you have wisdom. And you're only a youngster anyway! The good thing is that little kids keep you young...as long as you can ignore the backaches, the stiff joints, the bags under the eyes, etc, etc!

Well I'm 44 with an 11 month old

(and it'll be our 25th Wedding Anniversary this year )

I don't feel particularly old.

My mum was one of the oldest in the crowd at school, 35ish when she had me and 40 when she had my sister, were now 19 and 14, its great having older parents as they often have more time to spend with their children, and even though they arent the fastest at sports day its great!

ALso by the time they reach secondary school you look as good a you always did (if not better) in pictures wehreas all the young yummy mummies have aged somewhat!
