Baby monitor that can wake the dead

DH doesn’t wake up to children crying, shouting, anything it seems.

I am going into hospital in the next six weeks to have baby no2. I am a bit worried about this. What’s the best monitor in terms of noise alerts? Believe me it needs to be loud!

DH is partially deaf, so wears hearing aids. He has a vibrating one, so wears it like a watch. Would that help?

Vibrating one for sure if you live in a terrace!

I don’t know - I’d personally feel more confident with a loud one as he could easily nod off and forget to put it on.

So you ask him to put it on when he puts her down to bed. What if he falls asleep before he turns them monitor on.

Honestly OP he needs to step up and be an adult. If he isn't capable of something like putting on a watch when he's out her to bed, how will you trust him to look after her care needs? He can wear it for the next six weeks to give you a break from running up and down to the baby whilst you're heavily pregnant

Sleeping, can we just focus on the question, please? As I can’t really return the baby, so I will be away from home for at least two nights and I’m a bit worried about this.

What monitor are you using right now?

Whattosayinresponse · 17/05/2023 11:02

We aren’t; I’ve never not woken for ds. But this is for DH, so needs to ensure he will wake if ds calls out.

Ok, then i think in that case, any baby monitor will better than what you are doing now. You'd be surprised how much of a different it makes when it is turned up. We have the BT smart video baby monitor but you might not want to spend that much. Its video and audio so might be more than you need but even though DD sleeps in the room next to us, we have solid victorian walls and so the monitor really helps.

NuffSaidSam · 17/05/2023 13:19

Why don't you get a webcam one that connects to a tablet/iPad/phone and then it will be as loud as your devices top volume.

Or any monitor but have it close to his head. It's all about proximity.

I agree though that if he can't be trusted to put a watch on then presumably also can't be trusted to turn a monitor on, put it on full volume and place near his head....

Regenbogen22 · 17/05/2023 15:48

Or he could sleep in the same room as your eldest DC?

Loverofoxbowlakes · 17/05/2023 15:55

Move them into the same room - either ds in your room or dh in ds's room.

minisoksmakehardwork · 17/05/2023 16:00

How old is DS that he's still waking for needs and not wants during the night?

Your dh isn't waking because he does not have to. You're doing all the get ups. What happens when you tell DH he has to get up? Can you prod him awake every time you get up so his subconscious is lis

minisoksmakehardwork · 17/05/2023 16:01

So he subconscious is listening out for the sound of a distressed DS.

I can sleep like the dead. Even when our children were very small. But when I had to be awake, I was. So if they didn't wake me, then it wasn't that urgent!
