Tips to stop my toddler from running

We are on holiday with our DS 2yrs (26months) literally every time his hand is loosed, he bolts! He looks back at us laughing. Won't listen. If we shout him, carries on, if we show we are stern, carries on. If we say Bye then and walk away, carries on. Does anyone have any tips on this?
I look around and see children his age or even younger who are walking next to their parents without issue.
He also seems to have zero fear. I know he would run into the deep end of the pool!
It's putting me constantly on edge.
He's covered in bruises and were only 3 days into the holiday because he runs full pelt and falls over too. At my wits end 😫
Oh and for the evening entertainment when all the other kids are dancing or partaking in activities. Guess what.. he just runs and runs round them all, in circles round the dance floor!

Are some toddlers just like this?
I keep looking at all the other small kids and I don't see any others here like him 🤣

I have one of these and it’s a nightmare. Reins or backpack lies down on the floor and screams or pulls away… have put my back out countless times hauling him off the floor/away from where he’s run and plonking him in the pram. I think some of them have crazy amounts of energy and a high risk threshold - my daughter was nothing like this. He will just run and run and run bless him.

He’s nearly 3 and it seems to be slightly improving (emphasis on the slight)

We went on holiday when ds1 was 22 months and he kept running off. At home he wasn't a runner so we were unprepared! I was pregnant with dd and it was a nightmare. We just kept having to strap him into the pushchair.

I think the wrist ones are no good, you need a body harness or the backpack type ones. And don't buy on Amazon because they are mostly Chinese imports not meeting safety standards.

The wrist ones are good for keeping close but I hated them for my runners - really destabilising for the child if they fell, trip hazard for other people. Nice for docile walkers who may get lost if it's busy.
Little Life backpacks were amazing and really worked for two of mine.
