Vitamin D drops and gas

My lo is 15 weeks old and exclusively breastfed.. we were advised to give her vitamin D drops everyday. We started giving it to her when was just few days old.. but she didn't react well to it.. it gave her a lot of gas and she used to fussy and crying all the time..

We gave it a rest for a few days, she was fine during the interval but she is the same since we restarted it..

Has vitamin D drops caused gas or tummy issues in any of your babies? How did you deal with it?

Any advice is appreciated as we don't want to stop giving it to her but she gets extremely distressed by it 🥺

How much are you giving her? The full dose or just a few drops?

My HV told me to give only 6 drops (even though the box said 0.5 mg). When he started solids I would mix the dose in with whatever he was eating.

Honestly I wouldn't bother. They make very little difference to baby's vitamin d levels.

@DragonbornMum 0.5ml as advised by the HV and as given on the box.. I give her the drops and feed her right away after...

We have tried giving it to her during day - gassy whole day. And at night - lot of tossing and turning and crying.

It just seems to upset her no matter what time or how we give it to her😥

@wibblewobbleball honestly I am on that verge of giving up.. she is a happy baby otherwise, no other health issues.. I feel like I am giving her misery by giving the drops🤦🏻‍♀️

I would start with only a few drops. Some is better than none. As she gets bigger her gut will mature and be better equipped to handle that kind of thing.

If even a few drops are causing her distress honestly I'd give it up too. It's better to have the vitamin, but if it's this much of an issue it's not worth agonizing over

Are you sure it's the drops? My baby around that age started to be gassy so we started on infacol.
Never heard vitamind D would cause these issues. The vitaminn D for this little ones usually just one drop rather than measured in ml. I would suggest to give it every other day rather than every day. Are you also taking vitamins? If yes, she gets that from breastmilk so might be too much for her.

I definitely won't stop. Vitamin D is the most important for babies, especially if you live in the UK.
