Anyone elses little darling do this when thwarted.
My little angel has perfected the art. It goes a bit like this:

James wants something/takes something
Mummy says No
James does not like this
Throws himself onto all fours
Puts head to the floor (actually tests whether the surface is hard or soft the little horror- now thats calculated)
Lifts his head and bangs it onto carpet several times.Shock

Why do they do this?
Apparently dear hubby did similar as a toddler (which may explain alot).
What awful things do other toddlers do?

Mandy

yep, my 18 month old does it even on wooden floors. He was doing it lots but it's tailed off abit as I just ignored it which was quite hard in front of people! He's totally developmentally 'normal' (as much as boys ever are!) Mandy!!

My Ds did this alot and he actually preferred the surface to be as hard as possible.

In the end i just started ignoring him but moving him to the sofa so he couldn't hurt himself. He soon got bored when he could see i wasn't bothered.

My friends son used to do it all the time, I remember once on a pub low table a really scary noise. he was fine. He grew out of it.

My 18 month year old screams, cries and waves his hands about so everything goes flying. (The last time int he singing class when 20 other children were sitting there like the stepford wives offspring). He also does back arching and kicking if put in the pushchair when he doesn't want to go. But I feel this is the thin end of the wedge and I haven't seen his full range of techniques. (I'm sure he had been on some intensive tantrum training workshop)

I find a miss piggy karate chop works with the arching "I dont wanna go in pushchair / car seat" pose! Grin

My DS did this, especially in his carseat, and has moved on now to wild head-shaking with mad expressions. He seems fine but always reminds me of the child in the film "Parenthood" who is always jamming his head into a bin. I have such high hopes... My best pal's DDs both did this a lot and she was told it was nothing to worry about. Other favourites at the moment are: putting arm down toilet, ripping up newspapers and trying to do headstands (aged 2). Sigh.
