Hi I’m expecting my first in July so I’m still working out all this “baby stuff” so please excuse me if this is a daft question…
My partner has assembled the cot in the bottom base position so lowest to the ground, is there any reason the baby cannot just use that position first? Or is it best i get Him to move it to the highest position ( she isn’t sleeping in the cot alone and will always be in the same room as us until she’s a lot older)

It's easier to lift baby out at the higher setting

You can use it if you choose, but it will be difficult to lower a newborn to the mattress - especially a sleeping newborn. The highest position is much easier to access

You can leave it down there but it’s not easy to reach a small baby from that low down. Put something heavy in it and test how awkward it will be. Generally you put it low once the baby can stand

If you have a c section or are simply short, it's hard to bend all the way over to either pick up or put down a baby, especially if they are tiny and you need to protect their head.
We only put it down to the lowest setting once they started to pull up as then they were could be scooped up or put down

It makes no difference to the baby, it just makes it far easier for you to lift them in and out. Especially if you are trying to transfer them already asleep.

Depends on how keen you are to knacker your back...
