How much milk in ml did your newborn take per feed?

Our newborn is 1 week old and after about 30/40 ml (3 hourly) is falling asleep. The midwife said he should be taking 75ml per feed

He was 8 lbs 10 at birth

I'd say if he's falling asleep he's full. Keep an eye on his weight, and if he's not gaining then that's a concern. If he's gaining and not losing, then all should be well.

Agree with @msisfine watch by weight.

I'm assuming because going by feed size feeds are expressed or formula.

If just formula it is a but under guidance but baby is brand new and they are all different..

I combination fed and I remember posting terrified with my third at about three weeks as I couldn't seem to fill her and she was way way way above the midwife and formula amounts and being bf as well.

She settled and maintained her centile.

So just watch weight and keep up the regular feeds for now. Congratulations

Mine were on 40ml at a week. As others have said go by weight and how baby is thriving.
I always found it strange that the midwives would be so forceful about exact amounts of formula but nobody had any clue how much the breastfed babies were actually getting per feed. That's from someone who has done both so not meant to sound judging or condescending, genuinely just bothered me as a new mum many moons ago.
Congratulations on your new arrival, hope you and baby are both doing well!

Full babies look all drunken and sleepy. They produce wet nappies generously and they sleep.

If you are worried call your midwife or HV who can come out & advise/weight the baby.

A 1 week old definitely needs checking if they arent drinking much, eg they could have jaundice or something else, please get it checked

75ml is a huge amount, my dd was having more like 20-40ml at a time from the bottle at that age. I mix fed though, so it was a bit of BF, snooze, sip of bottle, snooze. She's always been perfectly median on the length and weight charts and is a healthy nearly 3yo now.

Their tummies are tiny at that age, about the size of their own fists. Imagine packing 75ml into that at once. Not to mention the dreaded trapped wind if they have too much bottle at once.

Ps I agree with pp, as long as you have enough wet and pooey nappies that's all that matters. I think it was around 10 wet and 6 poo per 24h or similar at that age. We kept a nappy diary for the first couple of weeks
