Anyone else's doctors funny about Neocate milk?

Twice now I've had trouble getting my babies new formula sorted. She is under a dietician who has prescribed her Neocate Syneo for her milk allergy. The doctors seem to have an issue prescribing it, first of all I was told I would have to pay for it, then now I'm only receiving half of the amount in meant to get ?
Wondering why this is happening ?
I didn't have an issue before when she was on Aptimal pepti 1 - although according to the gp who said I need to pay for this new formula that one shouldn't have been put on prescription either ?!

My GP wasn't funny per se but I did find that when my DC was on it I would sometimes only get a small amount- like enough for a couple of days at most. In the end I started putting in requests via the surgery instead and ask for extra so I wasn't trekking to the chemist all the time. They were quite happy to do that for me.

Is the dietician someone you accessed via the paediatrician at the hospital? If so, I think I'd go back to them and discuss difficulties of getting prescriptions and see what they suggest. If this is medically required for your baby, what is the doctor's reasoning for not prescribing?

The dietician was referred via the gp. The first doctor actually said when I told her that the dietician said I'll get it on prescription "well yes, they tend to say that as they're not the ones paying for it" so I'm thinking is it because it's expensive ? I've looked online and it's £30 for a 400g tin, there's no way I could afford that !

I have spoken to the dietician since this post and she said in her letter she has asked the surgery to put it on repeat. I just wondered why I only got less than half the amount for the month !

My son used to have Neocate and yes, it's expensive but if it's prescribed by the dietician then the GP should prescribe. WRT them prescribing less that you need I would just go back to them (I used to just write it on the repeat request slips or these days would do it via email) and say 'baby x uses one tin of Neocate every x days therefore please prescribe y amount of tins for the month'.

I did the same as N008 and said I needed X amount of tins per month. If they refuse ask for a meeting with the surgery's prescription manager and explain the issue, normally common sense will prevail.

I'm not sure if it's still the same now but when DS used Neocate it sometimes took ages to order in so had to put a prescription in 2 weeks before you needed it. This isn't viable when they only prescribe you enough for a week.

Yes at one point DS went through a tin every 2 days (they are smaller than standard formula tins) so I ordered 16 a months 😱 and as above sometimes the pharmacy had difficulty getting it in (and I was paranoid because pre-weaning it was all DS could eat) so I always had 8 or so tins in stock

I would speak to the practice manager at GP. Explain it all to them.
