9 month old up for 2-3 hours every wake up

No idea what to do. Sleep has been crap for ages now, with a week of almost sleeping through where we thought we’d cracked it.

Now it’s worse than ever. He’ll go to bed easily around 7, wake at 10 without fail and is currently still awake. Screaming, crying, laughing, trying to play - we go through all the moods. Won’t settle anywhere. Then, this will happen again a couple of hours later.

This morning I got him back in bed at 6 and he was up for the day at half past. We’re both working full time and this is just unsustainable. He’s not hungry, wet etc, naps are generally predictable and he’s very busy in the day with lots of fresh air.

What am I doing wrong? I’m barely sleeping at all even in the few hours he is because I’m so stressed and overtired myself.

should add - two top teeth and two bottom teeth through and no signs of any others so I’m sure that’s not the problem.

How many naps does he had in the day? At this point my DD moved from 3 Naps to 2. Do you think it's possible he is sleeping too much during the day and then isn't as tired at night? X

When you say he isn't hungry, are you offering milk when he wakes @Werewolfnotswearwolf?

My DD did this when she needed to go from 3 to 2 naps. Also, we have to keep an eye on how long she's napping in the day or she's up for a full wake window when she wakes in the night

We get split nights when naps need cutting down. It takes a good week for it to work though

At 9 months we had to dream feed our DD at 11 pm or no way would she sleep.

How have you got on today @Werewolfnotswearwolf?

BabyB2022 · 10/05/2023 05:18

Agree with others, we got split nights when naps needed to be cut.

Interesting that people have mentioned naps! He’s dropped to 2 but they are often only 45mins each, at most an hour so I don’t think he’s getting too much sleep.

He’s fed before bed, offered more milk when he wakes the first time which he’ll have a bit of but never finish. He’s not interested in breastfeeding any more, though I did offer again just in case it was a comfort thing.

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto actually he was okay last night - woke at 1am, fed and was back in bed by 2:30 - so not quick but better! Just woke again now at 6:30.

He is on the cusp of crawling/standing and is often not in the same place I left him in his cot! He’s generally very happy in the day, nursery staff always tell me they can’t believe he hasn’t slept!

Thanks so much for all the advice!
