Sorry, I'm sure that all these questions have been asked a load of times, but please help me, I don't really know how to start properly.
Firstly, DD1 is 2 and 4 months, and over the lst couple of days has done several wees and poos in her potty, but only when she is left to her own devices with a bare bottom, and her potty. She has been absolutely delighted by these successes, especially the poo, and we have a sticker chart which she enjoys too. If we go out, then it's a different story. She sometimes hints she wants to 'go' but if I try to get her to sit on a toilet or potty she won't do anything, and gets bored really quickly. When we go out, I have been putting her in pull up nappies with a cotton liner in the hope that it will make her feel the wet more, but although she does seem to notice the wet, it only bothers her if it's very wet iyswim. Am I doing it all wrong?
I'm guessing after reading through another thread that the best (only?) way of potty training properly is to stay in for few days. Hmmmm. Is this right? Do I need to resign myself to a few days staying in? Then what, do I bite the bullet and put her in pants or leave her with a bare bottom for a couple of days then move on to pants. Or do I stop bothering you guys with these questions and go and get myself a book on the subject. HELP!

You can stay in for a few days - but you have to go out eventually Personally I would just carry on with your successes at home for a bit and when she's really confident with that then go for it with pants. She is still very young to be dry imo - I wouldn't try to rush it. Never leave the house with less than three changes of clothes and always locate the loos as soon as you get to your destination. Good Luck

I think you have a choice. You can start young (and your dd is quite young) and it can take a while, it can be quite stressful, you have lots of accidents and washing and carpet cleaning and apologixzing to friend sfor the pee on their sofa. Or you can leave it until she says "I don't want to wear nappies any more" and you say "OK, here are some pants and there is the loo" and there you are, nappyless with no hassle, probably no accidents and no extra washing. This will happen by about 3.5. You call, but the second option looks good to me!

well i would say go for it if you think shes ready.
Ive just trained my dd, who is just 2 in 4 days. We had two days of wee everywhere and then everything has been done on the pot. I stayed in for 4 days. She went out yesterday to the childminders and to town and did not have one accident. I think having the four days at home really gave her time to concentrate on what she was doing so by the time she went out she was confident. Of course i will take changes of cloths etc when we go out for a bit, and her potty too.. But id rather do that than keep her in nappies when she doesnt need to be.
