Can I take this pram on board as hand luggage?

Hi does anyone know if I can take my DS Chicco Goody plus pram on board or would it have to go in the cargo? Also, would it replace DS hand luggage?
TIA 🙏🏻

Even the smallest fold up buggy goes in the hold.

You'd have to check the dimensions with the airline.

But you can have it all the way up to the gate and they'll then stow it in the hold for you, and will be available as soon as you're off the plane

Batbatbatty · 07/05/2023 07:22

It all depends on the folded dimensions. If the dimensions don't exceed that of the hand luggage dimensions of the specific airline, then you could take it on board instead of a cabin trolley suitcase.

It also depends on whether your son has a seat and therefore his own hand luggage allowance, or if he's a lap infant. Lap infant don't always have an allowance. If they do it's often just a small changing bag.

But, yes, it would count as a cabin bag out of your allocation.

Get it put in the hold.it won't cost anything extra and won't count towards any luggage weights etc

Will they let me use it right up until we reach the plane to board? Then give it back when we're getting off do u know?

That depends on the airport and ground handling

They've always taken it at the gate with us.

And it's often in the corridor on the way out.

Ok brill! Thanks all 😊

They take it at the gate/aircraft door, but we've never got it back until baggage reclaim. Worth asking x

Not true. Babyzen yoyo (and others) can go in the overhead bins. Have done it many times

SmallElephants · 07/05/2023 07:43

You can take it to the gate but you might not get it back till baggage reclaim so need to carry LO through passport control and it can be a long walk. We usually brought a carrier when that would be tricky (v young/ sleeping/ other kids to chase after).

No it doesn’t. I have taken a Mountain Buggy Nano on as hand luggage several times.

We take ours as carry on luggage, we specifically bought a small fold pushchair so we could do this.

BaggyJumpersandLeggings · 07/05/2023 08:08

I'll have to just ask at check in. But if I have it as hand luggage should I take 1 less hand luggage bag just incase? I should just put my things in LO trunkee just incase ?

It depends entirely on the airline and the luggage package that comes with your flight.

What airline is it?

Batbatbatty · 07/05/2023 08:24

@BaggyJumpersandLeggings all of this info will be available on the website of your airline. Best to check there regarding dimensions, luggage package etc than rely on people here.

Just because one person was allowed to take a yoyo on a Ryanair flight due to nice staff, for example, doesn't mean that all are (slightly exceeds their sizing).

FlounderingFruitcake · 07/05/2023 08:46

You can definitely take some prams on board as carry-ons if they are small enough when folded. The YoYo is the best known but it’s not the only cabin approved pram. A quick google suggests that the Goody should be ok, if you remove the bumper bar, but I’d get out the tape measure to double check against the airline’s allowance. It does counts as a large overhead cabin bag from your allowance so plan accordingly and if your DS is a lap infant then he will likely only get an extra nappy bag so you may want to check that too.

If you can’t or don’t want to take it as a carry on then usually you would take it to the gate and get it back on the jet bridge after landing. However, this is airport dependent and occasionally it’s leave at bag drop and collect at the baggage carousel. I know one airport like this in France and they have strollers to borrow.

Also, it’s totally your choice but if you’re going to ditch a carry on to take the pram on board then I would make it the Trunki. It’s surplus to requirements if DC can go in the buggy, they’re awkward to carry, have to go in the overhead and just generally a massive pain. IME a backpack that goes under the seat in front allowing you to access it easily in flight and a regular spinner carry on suitcase for stuff you don’t need to hand is the way to go.

BabyB2022 · 07/05/2023 09:46

I've found it depends on the airline. Tui told me they told allow any prams as hand luggage anymore, where I've been fine with virgin and previously had taken it on with tui the year before. I've got the ergobaby metro.

What's stopping you looking online before hand?

Why wait until check in when there's fuck all to be done about anything unexpected?

Wouldn't bother with a Trunki tbh. Big bulky and not easy to grab things from like a rucksack is.
