Hi all,

Mr Fizzy here - Mrs Fizzy is feeding the boys breakfast.

Youngest DS (1 3/4 yrs) has had really bad sickness and diarrhoea for the 3 days - this is his fourth. His bottom is sorer than ever before - we've put Sudocrem on, then germolene , but he's got two big, red welts on his bottom and we're after advice on what to do to alleviate his pain and get rid of the sores.

Anyone got any great ideas?

Many thanks,

Mr Fizzy

bless you, i would let as much air getto it as possible and DRAPOLENE(pink antiseptic cream youcan get in boots, chemmist etc) is without doubt the best creamfor very sore bums.give him some calpol for pain

If you are using babywipes STOP and use tepid water and cotton wool to clean.
Hope he feels better soon

Teuch · 18/02/2008 07:59

egg white!!!!! It really works wonders...

Along with calpol as mentioned.

First the magic pink juice (calpol) to ease the discomfort, then get some Metanium cream. You can get it in Superdrug, Boots Lloyds etc. Ask for it, as it's usually over the counter. It doesn't smell to good, and is very thick, but you only need a tiny application on the sore bits. My god, it's amazing. I've a DS who's suffered for sensitivie skin and ezcema since birth. This stuff will work on the first application.

Calpol/nurofen

Sorry - as Mr Fizzy posted he should have said we usually use cloth nappies but have switched him to disposables for the diarrhoea and we are wiping him with the fleece liners we usually line the nappies with and warm water.

I have calpolled (is this a legitimate word??) him. I shall be dashing off to Boots after I have dropped ds1 off at a friends (teacher training day)

Thank you all for your advice. MN is fab.

Mrs Fizzy, hope it is getting better if not I swear by lansinoh, fab for allowing the skin to heal whilst protecting it from urine etc

CarGirl · 18/02/2008 21:50

sprilon spray is designed for use with bedsores it is absolutely fabulous for raw bottoms, it is a light spray and completely waterproofs against further irritation. Costs about £7 but I've had it on pescription mostly. I had tried everything else metanium, drapolene etc etc

Teuch · 19/02/2008 14:15

C'mon people - someone else must use the egg white??!! I thought it was one of the most useful pieces of advice I was given

curlywurlycremeegg · 19/02/2008 14:24

Teuch never touched is but only because when I trained it was brought up as ver "non evidence Based Parctice" and that was a huge no no

RosieMac · 19/02/2008 14:26

Morhulin nappy cream. It's really thick stuff, so stays on for ages. Blue tube with pink smiley face.

chocolateshoes · 19/02/2008 14:28

Metanium was the only thing that worked on poor DS when he had the worst rash ever. It is amazing stuff.

CarGirl · 19/02/2008 14:28

egg white not that easy to take out and about with you TBH!!!! Good thing about the spray I mentioned is that you don't have to touch their bottoms to apply it!

fryalot · 19/02/2008 14:29

egg white always a good plan.

If nothing else seems to work, tis possible that ds has thrush. Try him with some canestan - tell the chemist that it is for a baby, not a grown up as they come in different strengths.

Good luck

Teuch · 19/02/2008 14:30

fair enough - glad I didn't dream it though

chocolateshoes · 19/02/2008 14:31

Someone once recommended camomile tea bags! Haven't tried it though - we only had Typhoo!
