thing if taking my almost one year old to cinema to the baby screening. Anyone done this? Would tour recommend? Have never take LO to cinema before
also if we don’t make it before they turn one does it still count as baby? What age is baby at the cinema?

We did it a few times when DD was newborn as she just slept through it all. I wouldn't do it with an older baby/toddler tbh because I don't think you really get to actually watch the film, unless you have a very placid one who will sit there for an hour and a half! You'll just end up chasing them around the cinema. If there are two adults though you can take it in turns to do the chasing!

Clymene · 05/05/2023 14:21

It might be a bit old just because they might get bored. It's much easier if they're tiny and non mobile

Heroicallyfound · 05/05/2023 14:21

Depends on the cinema - ask them if it’s not clear in the ad. I would have thought an almost 1yr old won’t want to be cooped up in a cinema for long! A baby screening is probably more for parents with babes in arms who might sleep through.

Or is it a screening of kids stuff? Sorry assumed it was the Cinebabies stuff where it's adult films just with the sound lowered etc!

arethereanyleftatall · 05/05/2023 14:26

I think you might have missed the boat with this one.
These screenings are adult films with sounds/lights lowered which you take a sleeping very young baby in with you. They are great and I used it loads.
But, a one year old is walking/talking possibly so I'm not sure it's suitable.

Depends if you are prepared to take the child straight out and then not return if they start crying etc so they don't ruin everyone else's enjoyment

Age 1 is far too young IMO

SisterMaryLoquacious · 05/05/2023 14:26

IME Watch With Baby screenings only work up to 7 or 8 months old maximum - when they get old enough to get bored. I think I stopped taking mine at about 5/6 months ( I remember 5 month old DD being mesmerised by Arwen/Liv Tyler's face in enormous close up - having never paid any attention to any previous movies).

Wicksytricksy · 05/05/2023 14:27

I only ever took mine when they were non mobile. Neither of mine stayed still from as soon as they could roll, and my eldest would have been babbling her head off throughout so guess it depends on your babies personality!

It's a baby screening. It's expected there will be noise and crying. They keep the lights on and the sound isn't as loud. But yes it's mainly for babes in arms who sleep, not really for crawlers/walkers, as it kind of defeats the purpose if you're chasing them around.

I think the op means the special shows cinemas put on during the day where you watch adult films with sleeping new borns. So, 1 yr old is too old, not too young.

My DD has been going to the cinema since she was 6 months.

When she was younger she would look at the screen and fall asleep. It's only when she was 4 that she started following the story and start playing up if she was bored.

Films have had a maximum of PG rating.

Hugasauras · 05/05/2023 14:30

We managed a whole Avengers film with DD1, which was impressive as it was about three hours long! We did a couple of others to, but that was when she was about three months old. No way would I take DD2 at 10 months. She is almost walking and I would spent the whole time going up and down the stairs with her or retrieving her from under seats.

ShirleyPhallus · 05/05/2023 14:30

I went a lot when mine were little and for 90% of the time I was the only person in there!

I think a year is too old really unless you can wheel them in their pram over nap time and sit at the bottom with them

Famfam2022 · 06/05/2023 16:44

I called the cinema and they are fine with the age!
i do take my baby to church every Sunday, and even though a Walker now, still sits nicely for the whole service!
I guess I want to do it at some point soon because I’m worried if I leave it until older why might have a bit of a fear?
wont hurt to try I guess! It will be interesting to see how it goes, could be a disaster lol
i will feel bad if there’s a bunch of sleeping tiny babies and my little one causes a riot! (Illl just leave if that’s the case lol)

Our cinema has a soft play at the front of one of the screens! DD1 was fine though, I used to go to 10am screenings and I’d be the only one there!

Is it a screening of an adult film bring your baby? I went to those every week when my son was born I live next to an everyman. I think a one year old is much tougher, I stopped going around 14 months as he wanted to be on the go. Much easier as a young baby when they feed and sleep
