Pull ups for long car journeys?

DD (3) has been potty trained for months now and has been doing relatively okay. Recently she has been having quite a few accidents but I think that’s mainly due to us moving house so I haven’t made a fuss out of it. Unfortunately when she does have an accident she doesn’t tell us until it is too late.

We are driving up to some family for the bank holiday weekend and the journey is around 6/7 hours. We haven’t made the journey since she has been potty trained so I am not sure if I should put her in a nappy pant in case she has an accident. She still wears them at night so I don’t think it would be an issue.

Has anyone got any advice?

We have put DD in a pull up for a long car journey before especially if we were travelling close to her bed time. It saved us having to pull over and get her changed into her pull up before bed.

Yeah put her in pull ups. I've been known to wear continence pads myself on long journeys too 😀

Yeh pull ups are good idea. If she asks why say it’s along journey and she might fall asleep.

you can still make toilet stops but at least it’s their just in case you can’t make one on time.

I do this. Also have a puppy pad on the carseat at all times (thought of washing that fills me with dread!).

Have marketed the pullups as "travel pants", so DS still thinks he's wearing pants (not a nappy!) but ones specifically for traveling. See also: nighttime pants.

I absolutely did this. I mean, I have also taken a potty in the car so if you can stop somewhere you can still do so, but you have that back up.

We did the first few times we did long journeys post-potty training. We also plan on a stop at the services on journeys over 2.5 hours and have a travel potty in the boot so we can pull over if needed.

Absolutely I’d do it. But I’d also plan regular toilet stops so that hopefully it’s not needed.

Yes I definitely did this. The peace of mind is so worth it.

I actually flew by myself with DS age 3 and DD age 1 (several years ago) and DS was put in a pull up for the journey despite being really good with potty training. He was terrified of the plane toilet but also wouldn’t use the pull up and my DM had to pull over on the 10 min journey between airport and home so he could pee in a bush because he was so desperate.
