Last feed before bed & Routines

Hello. My daughter currently has no routine and is 9 weeks old. I cannot understand how people manage routines, she is different every single day, naps and feeds all over the place, sometimes she is hungry after 2.5 hours and then close to 4 hours.
Recently she is having a long stretch of sleep but this is from around 6pm to 2am. I want to try and push this back so it mimics a night time but when we try this she will only have an ounce feed and is not interested.
Was anyone else like this and struggled with any sort of routine and how did you manage to create one? Thank you

I think mine were a little older when they started falling into a routine, it sounds as though your Dd is beginning to but it might not be a routine that suits you! Wink

Have you tried getting her up at the sane time each day, giving her a feed and a change and getting her outside to get some daylight? It helps them to start differentiating between night and day.

We didn't start getting into a proper routine until 6 months. Please don't kill yourself trying to make it happen.

Babies this age change so frequently. After even a couple of months your days will be totally different to what they are now.

I have an 8 week old so feel your pain but with his older brother we didn't get a routine until 5 months so just waiting patiently!

I knew that eventually we would want to do the bath, pyjamas, feed routine around 7/7:30pm so I decided from early on just to do it at that time every night. He’d then go down for a sleep and I’d wake him between 11-12 for a final feed and nappy change. we just eventually got to a point where I was trying to wake him for this feed and he wanted it less and less. On the last feed he didn’t open his eyes and I just thought why am I doing this? so didn’t wake him again and from then on he slept all night from the bath time til morning. I was very focused on the daytime naps too though. I read Gina Ford’s book but didn’t do any of the harsh bits in it (he was in our room til after 7 months in the end). There was a really good page in it with the times of day/night baby’s ‘should’ sleep by month of age. I found this really useful as I knew not to go past the maximum wake windows time and made an effort to actually put him down for a sleep if he didn’t actually doze off automatically himself while we were out and about. For a while we had the 5pm-9ish unsettled, screaming bit where nothing would settle him but once we got the daytime naps sorted that did get a lot better and it really helped the night time sleep too. It’s all linked so I think just try and establish your own routine of what you want it to be to fit in with your life as baby gets older then gradually get the naps sorted and you will fall into a routine

Mine are teens now but from what I remember, it was 3,4,5 months before a routine was really established. It will come, it’s tough going at your stage, I definitely remember that!!
