My baby wont drink anything - help!?

Hi All,

My baby wont drink anything, milk, water, very dilute juice from any type of bottle, open top cup, straw cup, sippy cup, beaker....

Baby was exclusively breast fed until 10 months but unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances and an intensive hospital stay this is no longer possible.

We have tried everything to get the baby to drink but we are really struggling!! The hospital has advised to ensure she is getting lots of calcium through yoghurts etc and we add liquids to her meals however this is still nowhere near the required levels.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Try chocolate flavoured milk.

Is she 10 months now or a bit older?

Mrsjayy · 26/04/2023 13:39

Will she spoil feed a drink from a bowl? Or maybe straw that sounds frustrating.

Could you trick her offer her "your drink"

FlounderingFruitcake · 26/04/2023 13:44

Have you tried squash? I know people can be snobby about it but sugar free squash really isn’t the worst thing in the world. You can also get those ice lolly moulds and freeze smoothies or juice. Or chuck her in the bath with no bubblebath and give her a toy tea set, mine are unable to resist drinking the bath water 🤣

Mrsjayy · 26/04/2023 13:46

Sorry you said you tried a straw.

All long has it been?

I would say for the moment, calcium in yogurt, fruit puree, add milk formula into vegetable purées (not too thick so that she gets water), give a break to trying bottle or sippy cup and offer again in a few days.
What about also making a light squash ice lollipop that she can suck? Supervised of course....

She is 11 months now

We are adding things like that to up her calcium intake thank you. We have just bought some moulds from amazon so will definitely try this. Hoping it will get some fluids into her but it still maybe wont be a lot

She always gestures towards it but then when she realises its liquid she immediately changes her mind 🙄

Watermelon and high water content fruit.

If you're desperate you could use calpol syringe to get some water in her

Hopefully just a phase

mackthepony · 26/04/2023 14:19

Put her in the bath, drink water from there

Make sure there's no Matey in it obviously

Oh little minx 😄

Jelly is another way of getting fluid into her.

LapinR0se · 26/04/2023 17:50

does she like calpol syringes? You can use those as a distraction technique also. I once got 150ml of water into my fluid refusing baby that way!

I had to go full on sugar filled icecream laden milkshake in a restaurant for mine around 1 after the boob. It worked, then I brought the sugar down!
