If you have young children, what are your life goals?

Was doing some decluttering at the weekend and found a 'bucket list' that I'd written when I was around 18 in an old diary! There were so many amazing goals and ideas in there - and although I've done a small handful of them, in the last few years I've had DC1 and am currently pregnant with DC2. I feel like my adventuring days of backpacking/ crazy travel experiences or festivals feel VERY far away right now (money and young kids being the main issue!), which was a bit depressing... so was thinking of writing some new goals for the next five years or so while I have very little DC. Anyone got any inspiration?

We do own our home, so paying down the mortgage is a massive goal of mine - but a lot harder to do in the current state of the world and considering i'll be going on mat leave soon...

Hi OP, I am in the same situation as you, I have 1 DC and currently pregnant with no2!

DH and I were watching married at first sight Australia the other day (soo good!) and they were talking about 5 year plans and we discussed ours..

  • both children into school so nursery bills are a thing of the past and we can push forward more at work
  • first family holiday next year abroad, probably just France/Spain but still something to really look forward to!
  • start overpaying mortgage
  • finish decorating house
  • get fit again after baby (both of us) and compete in a charity run of some sort!

Obviously these are not bucket list type ideas, but i feel like has really changed since becoming parents...that maybe I wouldn't want to go to a festival with a load of 18 year olds, or do a sky dive where I'd prob wet myself!
I think sadly life with kids, and in a cost of living crisis, becomes more about survival than fun, but there's a lot to be said for feeling pride in your home and finances, and maybe the 40s will be more about fun again!?
