3.5 year old says teacher smacks his head

My son came home and had a bag full go wet clothes from weeing himself, he's been potty trained for a while now. This happened before a few weeks ago, took him to get a uti test came back negetive. So brushed it off as a flook. Asked him today if his teachers are nice thinking he may be anxious for some reason, he said no and I asked why not. He imitated smacking the side of his head. I asked if he is sure his teacher does that, he said yes. I asked by accident. He said it happened two times and happened before and she does it to his friends sometimes. He is speach delayed so it's hard to ask questions that are not yes and no really. What's the best thing to do? I don't want to accuse anyone of anything but he's never said anything like this before. I even asked does mummy hit you ( I don't) and he said no so I don't think he's making this up personally but my partner said its hard to say anything cause of his speach delay.

Can you talk to the parents of his friends and see what they find out ?

You challenge it. If he's telling you it happened, believe him. If he's wrong, that's ok. But what if he's not.

Hotfootgoose · 24/04/2023 19:43

You must raise this. Children must always be believed until it’s proven otherwise.

No. If he's wrong it's not okay cos that could potentially effect the teachers career or give them a bad reputation IF the little one is wrong. I would approach the school about it myself. Really hope it is not true OP. 🥺

I think you need to go to the school/nursery about this. They will be duty bound to investigate. Don’t go investigating yourself by asking other parents - there’s no way any of them are going to say ‘oh yes, we know the teacher hits the kids!’ is there. And if they go putting ideas in their kids heads by asking them then it may jeopardise the investigation.

MissingMoominMamma · 24/04/2023 19:47

I wonder whether she’s patting his cheek and it’s not a thing he’s familiar with. It’s definitely worth mentioning to the head of the nursery.

Kiwii48 · 24/04/2023 19:49

How would I do this? I've no idea what's the proper way of raising this concern or what to expect in response to it

Go to the school. The school will have procedures for figuring out whether it's a young child misunderstanding something that's happened or really what you think.

It won't ruin a teacher's reputation, everybody knows small children get things wrong sometimes.

Kiwii48 · 24/04/2023 19:50

*several times and he showed quite a big slap. Sorry I posted to early on the reply! Not sure how to bring this up with the manager

@Mumtobe2023 it's not going to ruin anyone's reputation if it's untrue.

Kiwii48 · 24/04/2023 19:52

Thank you, I hope so too. He's a quiet little thing so I'm really hoping shes just been unintentionally rough. Just the way he showed me when I asked was a proper smack worries me so much

Yes okay maybe my comment was a little exaggerated but word can get around about things. Op is definitely better off going to the school directly. Just hope it's not true 😔

GoodChat · 24/04/2023 21:03

Oh yeah @Mumtobe2023 I meant challenge it with the school, rather than tackle the teacher head on
