How Long Does a Teething Spell Last?

Hi All,

Just hoping for some of your experiences. My DS got his first tooth 3 weeks ago out of no where. There was no big teething signs before it cut through. However, about a week after it cut through it all took off. Fussy mood, refusing solids but wanting more milk than ever, sudden mood changes and some poor nights sleep from pain and/or extra hunger due to refusing solids.

There has been no sign of his second bottom tooth cutting through even though every article seems to suggest they come in pairs. So we are now two weeks into the fussiness and refusal to eat.

Just wondering, in your experience, did teeth always come in their pairs and how long more could this teething period go on for?

My baby has been teething for five weeks. We have one tiny point just visible.

Can definitely last for weeks.

The tooth can just break through, and you think it's over, and the bloody tooth disappears back into the gum and you're back to square one!

OP are you giving painkillers etc?
I know they are a bit marmite on MN but we really found the homeopathic teething granules to be helpful. Boots do them.

Thankfully the first tooth is established and grown quiet tall but looks a little lonely on its own. It makes me giggle when he laughs and I just see one tooth sticking up 😂

@Snugglemonkey 5 weeks? Oh my god!!! You poor thing. I guess Dr. Google lied. They said 1 week. Its so tough isn't it? I hope your baby will be through it soon.

@Seeline I have used neurofen and calpol but it didn't seem to make a huge difference so I stopped using it as it seemed like teething was lasting forever so didn't want to keep relying on it. I also tried teetha gel but I think most of it gets licked off my finger by the time I reach his gum. He also sucks it off his tooth and gum when I do get it there 😅Maybe I would have more luck with granules instead of the gel.

She is gnawing her wee hands off. She is too young for gels, but we use teething powders for relief. I wish she did not have to experience it!

@kirsty2023 my little one is 6mo. The weaning is what's throwing me as he is completely rejecting food and I'm worried if I push it it will turn him off eating solids altogether but if I don't persist and just up the milk again then we have to start all over again with weaning after we had just made progress before the teething started. Calgel isn't sold in my country, is that usually considered the best thing?

Never had any success with any of the gels - impossible to get on the gums 😆That's when we discovered the powders/granules.

Weaning is a pain I hated with my 3 year old I did purée and then went to lumpy food but also gave toast finger foods to her as well I've got to do it all again soon Confused
