11 month old milk

Firstly I have asked my HV - no reply yet.

So for the last week baby has totally refused milk. 1oz here and there but mostly just out right chucks it at me. He eats really well. Breakfast lunch and dinner. Weaning has never been tricky for me because he will eat whatever you give him!

I'm just a little concerned about the milk. I know he should still be having a fair bit. I give porridge and things with his milk in to try and get some in but it's not much.

Should I be worried? Or go with it a little longer? He has a bit of water but really not much. Sleeps fantastically so I guess he can't be starving?

Maybe I'm being silly but FTM so obviously always anxious!

It's not ideal but if he won't have it I'd just give him his daily vitamins and make sure he has enough calcium, protein and good fats.

Mine totally self weaned from milk at 9m, it's unusual but fine.Just increase yoghurt cheese etc.

My baby went off her milk at 9 months and would take an oz or two at breakfast and then at bed. I spoke to my hv and was encouraged to try milk with wheatabix, milk in mashed potato and scrambled egg and plenty of yoghurt as it all counts towards the daily milk intake. I also gave one vitamin d drop.

Hv reassured me that babies progress at different paces and it’s okay if she starts to go off her milk as she was wanting more solids.

My dd was also terrible from drinking water so I bought a few different cups to see what she would prefer and not long later she was helping herself to water from her sippy cup whenever she wanted it. I also dropped to two bottles and gave my dd a snack in the morning and afternoon with some water.

ftm here too and my dd has just turned 1. Try not worth as hard as it is, your baby will be fine. If you’re concerned about weight gain then ask hv for a good weigjt check.

Thanks both. I'll ensure to up the calcium and make sure he has all the vitamins he needs. He used to love his milk too but is absolutely over it.

He eats and sleeps really well - no problems with pooing or constipation and is otherwise a super happy baby so I know he clearly isn't hungry.

Will keep trying with the milk still though

Thank you so much! Will speak to HV if weight becomes a problem but at the moment he seems to be gaining well. He was a small baby but went from 2nd percentile to 10th then 20th at 6 months!

Steadily stayed there since

My DC1 stopped drinking milk around 11/12 months and never really started again. He still had lots of cheese, yoghurt, milk in cereal etc. He's now 17yo and well over 6 foot tall!

DragonbornMum · 24/04/2023 08:50

As long as he's eating well that's totally fine. You can hide milk in his food, like porridge or rice pudding. Do continue to offer milk and if he only takes 1 oz then great; it's something to boost the intake. But honestly it sounds like he's doing brilliantly and this isn't something you need to worry about.

FlounderingFruitcake · 24/04/2023 09:00

My 2 were the same, it’s fine and exactly what they’re supposed to do according to our paediatrician (used to live in the US where it’s normal to see a paediatrician for routine stuff).

At 12 months the advised amount massively drops and you’re told to stop all the bottles and formula so he’s only slightly early. I’d give him a multivitamin, make sure there’s plenty of dairy in his diet so milk in porridge, yoghurt for pudding etc and not give it a second thought nor would I continue to offer it when it’s just going to waste.
