Toddler lunches

what sort of things did you put in your toddlers packed lunch? My 2.5 year old is going through a really picky stage. Meals at home I have a handle on (to a degree) but his packed lunches for his day at nursery give me stress! Sandwich is okay, but he won’t touch any veg, hummus etc I pop in. Some fruit, crackers and cheese seems to go okay most days but he is difficult over this then he’s always ravenous when I pick him up.

What sorts of things did you pack? I still offer veg but it never gets touched.

SorryC I should have stated that these are cold packed lunches, no opportunity to heat stuff like jacket potatoes up.

I’ve tried making savoury muffins and swirlies and he won’t eat them

A sandwich (ham, cheese or jam) a fruit (banana or oranges) a yoghurt, a treat (homemade cupcake or a handful of veggie straws). On a jam sandwich day, I'll also put in cheese and crackers. I did the whole carrot batons/ cucumbers and peppers cut into cute shapes thing, they never got eaten.

My Dd loves plain ham so loads of that.
Cheese strings or babybel.
Cold mini pizza slices
Cream cheese on crackers
Bread sticks
Cold cooked pasta, plain or with peas and sweetcorn

Eventhough they're fussy at this age I still try to always send something more 'exciting' like hummus so the option is there. Sometimes she surprises me and has it 😂

Omelettes with veg and cheese you can eat cold too. I blitz the spinach so the pieces are tiny in the omelette.
cold pasta salads with tuna and sweetcorn.
I wouldn’t give jam sandwiches at this age.

Hubblebubble · 23/04/2023 22:43

@AllIwantforChristmas22 it's an occasional treat as part of a healthy balanced diet. It's jam, not coke (of either kind).

mexicanandafewdrinks · 23/04/2023 22:48

mini pork pie
KPs peanuts as a treat
little mini pancakes/blinis
roast veg

WashableVelvet · 23/04/2023 22:52

Dinner leftovers. She doesn’t seem to mind them being cold. Eggs - hard boiled and quartered, or as a plain omelette cut into strips - also go down well.

Hubblebubble · 23/04/2023 23:08

I nearly forgot pizza bagels! Half a bagel toasted, tomato sauce, grated cheese (melted for a min in the microwave) and then topped with very finely cut peppers and pepperoni

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 24/04/2023 06:56

@Hubblebubble you can give your toddler as much sugar as you like, I just said I wouldn’t do it at this young age.

Hubblebubble · 24/04/2023 12:03

@AllIwantforChristmas22 And you can continue to take your own approach to sugar intake, but an occasional jam sandwich at the age of 3 isnt going to set him up for diabetes. His packed lunch always covers all of the food groups. Honestly, you'd think I was sending him off with nowt to eat but gummy bears and a sherbert dibdab.
