I think that's quite a normal reaction to the bcg

My daughter’s was like this on and off for about 5 months! It would build up some puss, then pop, scab over and the process would start again. It does eventually heal but it’s not pretty!

I've never heard of babies having the bcg vaccine, it used to be given at 13 but has been completely stopped now (U.K.) neither of my children were offered it.

roughoption · 22/04/2023 18:43

@gogohmm children with parents of certain ethnicity are offered and also some areas that have higher rates. My DC had it

Its only offered in certain areas that might have more chance of contact with TB. My kids weren't offered it as we aren't in an area of concern

Both mine had it and it looked very similar. It took months to clear up, now it’s just a flat red mark.

Its definitely not been completly stopped. Its offered in some areas and to people of certain ethnic groups.

Op, i'd say it just needs to heal a bit longer

Newjobformoremoney · 22/04/2023 19:45

It definitely hasn’t been completely stopped @gogohmm. Everyone in London is entitled to it as well as those with roots to high TB countries.
OP don’t worry, it looks fine to me. You want a strong reaction as it’s meant to be better protection apparently.

My daughter’s looked like that for quite a while, you can barely see it now, you’ve really got to look for it.

AndTheSurveySays · 22/04/2023 19:49

DDs looked like that and then suddenly burst puss all over my hand when changing her vest.

f12 · 28/02/2025 19:43

I know this is an old thread but my little one had the BCG 6 months ago and still looking very big and swollen ( tiny yellow fluid stains on vest when she gets dressed) does not seem to bother her but how long until it goes down? Doctors have been no help as they ' do not see BCGS often' but said it's not infected just very swollen

How long did it last? Xx

So it took a while for it to heal. Maybe 2 months. It kept bulging with puss then refilling a few times. Then it just healed itself but left quite a big mark in same area.
