cloth nappies - which are best for newborn?

Can anyone advise me? I used cloth nappies for dd3 who is now 3.2 and also her older sister - but not from newborn for her, but am now pg with dc5 and have no idea of what are the good nappies to have now. I have had a look at this topic, and don't recognise half of the nappy names around now

I did like fuzzi bunz and also tots bots for dd3, but can't remember which ones were good at newborn stage (I did try alot of different nappies ).

Also, which sites are good for buying nappies now?

You can't beat size 0 Bimbles for a newborn - same kind of deal as totsbots but fully fleece lined and teeny weeny!

site-wise Bumfluff are good - I also rate Kittykins.

bimbles! I've never heard of those.

Thanks for this - I will take a look at those sites.

Newborn sized bimbles are fab for newborns because they fit so well - the downside is they are outgrown very quickly (many people find they don't get as far as the 15lb upper limit). You can get birth to potty bimbles too which are not going to fit as well for a newborn but will obviously fit for longer. They are very adaptable in fit though, especially the nippa fit ones in my experience. Bimbles and bumbles are really good nappies IMO. bimbles, bumbles and bambeasy nappies

You can get newborn fuzzi bunz too - bit costly though IMO. There are lots of good alternatives to totsbots that have come about in the past few years which are well worth checking out.

Kissuluvs are also popular for newborns but apparently not good for taller babies. Same issue with sizing as tiny newborn bimbles though I think.

Are you happy having to buy 3 different sized nappies to take you up to potty training or would you prefer a typical birth 18lb then 18lb to potty nappy sizing scheme? If you have a tiny baby you could always just use muslin cloths until he or she fits in the first size larger nappies.

Diddy Diapers by Nature Babies and Little Lambs are my absolute faves. I nearly cried when ds outgrew them! We didn't ever have one leaky poo with them, they are ace!

LazyLinePainterJane · 15/02/2008 21:03

bimbles are lovely. They don't last long though, but the upside of that is that they are still nice and fluffy for the next one. They are teeny and cute, we used them with DS.

MrsBadger · 15/02/2008 21:52

and also tiny bimbles get so little use they're a great secondhand buy

Pollyanna · 16/02/2008 15:59

I may order a bimble and little lamb and try those.

I have just remember that I have kissaluvs from last time, and possibly some totsbots (non-bamboo/fluffle etc) though. Strictly speaking I probably don't really need any more nappies

Lazylinepainterjane - I can't use the next one as an excuse for buying nappies - this is no5!

So what?! There's always 6, 7 and 8

prefolds are a good value choice for newborns as you can fold and adapt them to whatever size they are, and they dry pretty quick. They grow out of them so quickly it seemed a waste to buy shaped nappies. Just make sure you have some good wraps (e.g. motherease airflow).

Also, if you have one in your area, you could consider a nappy laundry service for those first few manic months... a great help!

gemmasetters · 21/02/2008 22:40

I will second Kissaluvs size 0. I also had a bimble 0 but by the time I went to use it, I couldn't get it on well - although I hate nappy nippas which didn't help!
I don't know if I'm allowed to say this (sorry if not!) and I don't know if its a little late, but I am selling my bimble here www.clothnappytree.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4510 and can also do you some kissaluv 0s if you don't have that size - they are just getting a little low absorbancy for my lo at 12 weeks. I have Bimbles and Kissaluvs for newborns, and liked them both. My DC2 is due in 2 weeks, nappies ready to go and I was so excited to get my cute tiny nappies out again!!!

workstostaysane · 22/02/2008 18:24

i used muslins, folded a la instructions on the nappy lady website. we went through so many with a newborn - they were cheap and washed and dried easily so i found them perfect.

Do you still need to use liners in these newborn nappies, or is the poo too liquid to be contained by anything?

Lucyand2 · 27/02/2008 16:11

At the moment I'm attempting to use Kissaluvs size 0, diddy diapers, bimbles and terries on DD2. The bimble leaked really quickly which suprised me as it fit really well. The kissaluvs have been good for poo containment but my favourite so far are the diddy diapers. They fit really well and feel lovely!
My only problems have been getting wraps that fit properly and don't aggravate DD2's belly button. The nature nappy popper wraps are really adjustable so very good, motherease wraps are a bit better but too big and my modern baby wraps are even worse as I can't fold them down at the front.
I've bought from bumfluffnappies, kittykins, babykind, twinkle, clwt-twt and the nappy lady. I would definately recommend signing up to the yahoo nappy group as I've picked up some great things there at a good price.
