Stomach bug- should we use pull ups?

DD has woken up this morning with a stomach bug. Her night nappy is super full and since we have taken it off she has unfortunately soiled herself. Naturally she was really upset and embarrassed but just couldn’t get to the toilet in time. She isn’t going into school for the next 48hrs but Could I pop her nappy pants on her to catch any accidents if she doesn’t make it to the toilet in time?

I don’t see the issue with that. Keep taking her to the toilet constantly. If you have a potty then keep that nearby. A pull up might save you on the washing.

At the moment we are going to the toilet every half an hour to try and prevent her having an accident. Trying to make sure she stays hydrated as well.

That’s awful op! I second the pull up. It will save you all a lot of stress in an already stressful time and shouldn’t set anyone back at all. I started toilet training this week and have to put a pull up on my toddler we temporarily so she can do her poo in it as she is afraid of the toilet. A few friends had to do the same and their older kids are absolutely fine and it hasn’t regressed them at all 🤷🏼‍♀️ I hope she feels better soon and that you don’t get it next!

I remember going through the same issue when potty training little missy. It’s not worth the trouble of them withholding as it can cause serious health problems. She used to her poo’s in her night nappy and then grew out of it.

If she goes to school, you can talk to her about it I suppose. My 4 year old would refuse to wear one for sure but we just keep two potties downstairs usually in the kitchen / dining area and I would explain that accidents can happen even for mummy and daddy if you such runny poop.

I just went through this with mine. We put pull ups on as she just couldn’t control it and it was super stressful trying to watch her like a hawk. It was fine and we just reverted back once the diarrhoea had gone

I hope you're all feeling better soon though.

DD & I recently both caught norovirus. I have never felt so ill and both needed whole new bedding sets. DD (4) had her night time nappy on and I bought the Tena lady pants! DD was too tired and sick I think she was relieved to have her 'night time pants' as she was getting so upset at having accidents.

How old is she?

I would if she accepts the pull up. I have a 6 year old with chronic constipation and we have had to do clear outs in the past, some of the medicines can involve explosive poos with little notice and we put pull ups on for their dignity. The regular toilet sits really upset my child (who is otherwise trained but has a condition which is out of their control)

She’s 4 and a half- I have put a nappy pant on her just in case I miss it and she can’t hold it but I have told her to get to the toilet if possible

I think DD was the same, she would never have asked me but when I suggested changing her into her night pants I think she was relieved.
