How far do you go from your sleeping baby?

DS is a great napper/sleeper. 7mo. Also have older children, 6 and 3 who sleep well in the evenings. We have a big garden with several outbuildings - one is an office and also houses my spins bike and behind another, approx 30 metres from the house is my veg patch/green house/washing line.

We have a baby monitor (sound and camera) on the youngest, nothing on the two elder.

Would you:

  • Go into the office building (5 metres away, looking directly at back door) and do a workout?
  • Potter about veg patch/green house behind other outbuilding (can't see house)?
-Put the washing on the line (can't see the house)?

During naps/evening sleep? Obviously during the day the older 2 accompany me in the garden. Monitor on loud. Ring doorbell on front and side of house.

Yes I'd do all of those but you'll get a lot of people who wouldn't on MN.

We have a separate garage from our house and will often nip in there if I need to grab anything from the "big freezer", dryer etc whilst my DS 20mo is sleeping/napping. However if I was to be in there longer or to potter or sit in the garden I would have to make sure that the video monitor is within range so I can keep an eye on him.

100%. If you have an eye on baby with the monitor then go for it

I wouldn’t but each to their own. Yes I am anxious regards to DD before anyone asks! Can’t help it. With cameras then it should be fine, personal choice.

Trixiedrum · 21/04/2023 11:17

I would do all of those things with the monitor on.

What will the older kids do if they wake? I would pop back into the house periodically to check they’re not crying for me or wandering around

Yes

You have a baby monitor so the baby is covered. I would put a sound monitor in the bigger kids rooms and go about my business. You are home. As long as you can hear them and get to them quickly I don't see an issue. I personally wouldn't but my 3 year old just doesn't sleep. She's up so much I'd be mid activity and have to go to her.

philautia · 21/04/2023 11:33

Of course you can!

As long as you have the monitor you can hear any crying. I wouldn't bother taking the monitor for hanging washing out, but yes for exercising.

Anywhere in the garden 100m or so without a baby monitor, but not for thst long.
What's the worst that can happen I'm their cot? Wake up and cry a bit
