Due 2nd child…to get a baby carrier or not?

Just as the title says, I’m due my second baby and my DD will be just about to turn 3 when the baby is born. What’s the consensus on a baby carrier for baby no2?
Does it make life much easier or was it something you didn’t get the use out of?

I have a 3 year old and 3 month old. A sling has been my most used baby item - wouldn't be without it and would always recommend them to anybody now. I use it daily. Godsend!!!

And I would start off with the stretchy type too. At the moment I am using the ergobaby aura. We have an ergobaby omni 360 from when DS1 was little but I haven't used DS2 in that yet. The aura is brilliant for just around the house, making dinner etc. omni 360 is bulkier and I would say better for outdoor use.

Neither of mine were comfortable in one, they were very long babies. Also my back wasn't up to it at all. I would recommend borrowing one to see if it suits or ask around as they tend to be used for a very short period by a lot of people.

I mean I would never have survived my first without a sling, so I don't... really... understand the question? But I sure spent a lot of time on playgrounds chasing DC1 with DC2 snuggled up happily in the sling.

I think it depends on what the baby is like. I hear some are fine being put down in things like bounce / rocker chairs, cots etc, mine was stuck to me like glue!

I got loads of use out of our structured carrier when she was a few months old. But wish I'd had a wrap or sling of some kind when she was a newborn. I was not prepared for how achy my arms would be at times.

Maybe Google sling libraries. You can try, or even hire, different types to see what works for you and baby.

I'm due no 2 in a few months and definitely plan on getting something for the newborn stage this time.

Oh and I second those who recommend soft stretchy in newborn months. I used a simple soft stretchy wrap in newborn days with #1, a Close Caboo for #2, then from 3-4 months I had a much-loved Tula which fitted short me better than the Ergo.

I have a Pao Papoose 3 in 1 structured carrier that was good from around 4 months I think.
Could be worn on the front world facing or parent facing and on the back.
DD wanted nothing else but to face the world from very early and used to make my wrists ache holding her that way until I got the carrier.

Definitely try a sling library if you can get to one though.
