Someone give me some ideas on how to avoid murdering ds today

He has been an absolute pain in the arse today (he has just turned 4). He gets a game out, plays for two seconds leaves a mess everywhere and then gets another game out. He is constantly baiting his sister (2.6) and the rest of the time he is either crying with frustration at not being to do something himself, asking for the tv to be put on or just whingeing/wailing. I am pregnant, I have the tail end of flu and I actually sat in my bedroom and cried this morning.

I took them out to the park this morning but after an hour ds said he was too cold and we had to go home. It is, admittedly, freezing today.

What can I do with them this afternoon in the house?

how about a big sheet on the floor, mix up some flour and water, get a load of newspapers and let them make papier mache monsters. It will make a mess but hopefully contained to within the sheet which you can then pick up and shake into the bin/. if you've got any balloons blow them up, slap papier mache on them and then when they've dried cut them in half and make masks.

then they can paint them. after that they will need a bath !

if that all too much effort, how about plonking them infront of a dvd (allowed as you are feeling down!).

good luck. x

They are already watching tv - would not be left alone to do this otherwise

Come on, anyone else? The papier mache idea is nice but dd will just make a huge mess round the house with that

how about getting them to sort your kitchen cupboards out and then put everything back neatly? mine are always a mess.

I'd say the dvd. Active parenting and crafts and all that is all very well, but there are days when you just need to be kind to yourself.

maybe they could play at being mummy and you could get them to do the hoovering/dusting/general housework whilst you supervise and chat on mumsnet?!

How about bun making? You can keep it contained on the kitchen table. Give them their own mixing bowl and spoon.

PetitFilou1 · 15/02/2008 13:44

yes bun making popular but saving that as have to make 24 tomorrow for his party on sun! but cooking might be the order of the day
