Awful dribble rash pics

Baby has eczema but this is from dribble mainly, it's got so so sore today and appears to be weeping. She doesn't seem bothered by it but I feel awful as I left her in a wet vest too long and now it's gone like this !
The nurse said I should be using cetraben on it but that just keeps it moist! She also prescribed antibiotic cream aswell incase it ever looks infected which I've put on a thin layer now because it's weepy. But it isn't sinking in and is just wet. What shall I do?! She is lying in her nappy I was waiting for it to dry but it isn't

The first picture was yesterday the others are now

I dry it off by dabbing it and it just goes wet again

Sorry, no advice I'm afraid but I'm in the same predicament! I've not had to get antibiotic cream yet but his neck just looks so sore. I find keeping his dummy in when he's sitting up in the chair or pram stops the dribbling a bit but otherwise, I am literally putting 2 bibs on him and using muslins constantly. It's a nightmare isnt it 😔

I found the only thing that cleared it up was hydrocortisone cream (prescription only for that age) and then regular generous applications of Vaseline to stop it coming back.

Sorry your baby is going through it too! See im finding the dummy isn't helping as where she's sucking it's causing eczema/rash on her face too. Poor baby I feel awful.
It did dry up mostly eventually but I'm so worried about her best sticking to it !

Injbtiellt put talc on it and it all stuck to it in these weird bumps and I had to wash it off

Try sudocrem my 16 week old has the same and it's starting to clear up

Hi OP. Dry her skin with a clean towel and then gently rub Vaseline onto her skin. This will give her skin a thin waterproof layer and will prevent the dribble irritating it. Do this a couple of times a day.

Also makes sure she wears a bib and change it regularly so it doesn’t get too soggy. Good luck x

cocksstrideintheevening · 14/04/2023 22:15

I would use sudocreme rather than Vaseline but it might have become infected, fungal or bacterial and need hc whick you'll need to get prescribed at that age.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 14/04/2023 22:19

We found that drying the skin then adding a barrier cream worked well. You have to be on top of it though and keep drying and applying throughout the day.

Any barrier cream worked, we always had lots of zero base or cetraben in the house because she had eczema.

BigMacAttack · 14/04/2023 22:33

Try a test patch using Nappy Cream.

SorePaw · 14/04/2023 22:38

Try to remember it's bothering you more than her. I had some issues after an operation and I found drying it (Pat with a towel) and using Germolene helped enormously. It looks worse than it feels xx

Agitatethebumcrack · 14/04/2023 22:42

Bepanthen as a barrier cream.
Its marvellous.

babyreallysoreneck · 15/04/2023 06:43

This is it this morning - her vest stuck over night !! Really not sure what to do for the best now as it's very dry now, don't know whether to leave it or put something on it ?

The moisture in the saliva affects the pH of the skin which causes it to break down.

In order to allow the skin to heal and reform its natural barriers you need to cleanse with pH balanced cleanser, pat dry (don't rub as this will cause increased trauma) then apply a thin layer of barrier cream, gently smeared on, don't rub it in too much, which will protect from further damage and help to remoisturise the skin ans restore its normal pH.
Most baby washes are pH balanced and something like bepanthen is really good for this sort of thing.

Ideally, try and keep the area as dry as possible, so changing the bib as frequently as you can.

AmberM2022 · 15/04/2023 07:20

Stick to the antibiotic cream twice a day until it clears! My LO had the same, we now just use it whenever it comes back and looks ‘raw’

babyreallysoreneck · 15/04/2023 08:23

Is the yellow metamium any good for it ?
Used sudocrem before and it doesn't work on it. I also want it to breath so worried about smothering it with too much stuff.
It doesn't seem to be bothering her atm but I'm conscious as it dries out more it'll become itchy and she'll scratch then it will bleed

Going out today to get loads more vests and bibs so can really keep on top of changing her

Try the bibs with plastic backing on them u can get them from primary pack of 5 for £2.80 stops the wet from touching her chest x

kirsty2023 · 15/04/2023 08:50

Primark

pinkmummy1 · 15/04/2023 08:52

My baby is the same. She can soak an outfit in a fue minutes. i always put on a dribble bib and change it whenthey are wet. I like the ones that tuck under the chin. Aldi have a baby avent on at the moment I bought some there last time. Also I use liquid talc as a barrier cream under her chin and when it was red and sore I used sodocream.

UnicornNarwhale · 15/04/2023 09:26

i wouldnt put metanium on that big an area. It will also ruin her clothes! It looks dry so a cream for excema might be better, something to moisturise and then a barrier cream on top. I’ve found coconut oil helpful for my LO

the antibiotic cream might be irritating it if it is strong so moisturising as well should help soothe

GrowBabyGrow · 15/04/2023 09:36

When my DD had bad nappy rash the GP recommended lots of nappy free time. It helped clear it up quickly. Maybe vest free time would help?

Freshair87 · 15/04/2023 11:28

Daktacourt hydrocortisone was the only thing that worked for us which the GP can prescribe although it is the same thing as athletes foot cream

babyreallysoreneck · 15/04/2023 12:08

Thank you everybody. Lots of different advice here. I'm going to stick to the cetraben and keeping it as dry as possible. Got lots more vests and bibs to keep swapping. And yes best free time is a must

She's dribbles so much but still no teeth !!
