Do people buy from Vinted?

I'm looking to sell some of DC's (just turned 1) now-too-small clothes, as well as outgrown toys, practical items, etcl. I figure Facebook marketplace might be the best place for the latter 2 things listed, but I wonder about selling the clothes on Vinted.

Firstly, do people even buy second hand baby clothes (in good condition of course)? And secondly, where would you seek out second hand clothes/toys/other stuff?

Yes, I believe people would buy second hand baby clothes. Maybe because of COL financial difficulties, maybe because of ethical clothing reasons. I've seen toys on Vinted too.
But I'd also use FB marketplace too. You'll get people closer to home and save on having to post and they'll save on postage costs. You could do clothes bundles etc.
There was a thread on here very recently where a woman was desperate to buy clothes foe herself and 4 DC and a lot of people recommended Vinted and FB (as well as charity shops of course)

Hellocatshome · 11/04/2023 22:44

Yes I've sold lots of things on vinted. With baby clothes best to sell as a bundle and price to sell.

StopGrowingPlease · 11/04/2023 22:44

I’ve just started doing this and I’ve sold 1 thing so far. They don’t sell for much and I only sold it for £1 but the buyer pays for all the postage so it will add up if you have enough items sell

I wouldn't buy baby / kids clothes from Vinted as I'd only want bundles and don't want to pay the postage!

I've bought loads of bundles of clothing for my DC on Facebook marketplace and found it to be brilliant value for money. People charge more on Vinted.

MadEyeMoodysEye · 11/04/2023 22:49

I've been buying mostly second hand for years, mainly for ethical reasons but I like a bargain too.
When mine were babies (pre-Vinted) I bought and sold through eBay, and brand-specific Facebook groups.
I now use Vinted for nearly all our clothes.

annlee3817 · 11/04/2023 23:52

We've bought lots from Vinted, I'm always on theook out for baby stuff and stuff for me

Koalasparkles · 11/04/2023 23:54

Yep I've bought and sold lots on vinted - get on it!

You can create bundles and some sellers offer a % off if you buy a certain number of items. I'd only tend to get bundles otherwise postage isn't worth it.

Babyenroute · 12/04/2023 00:03

I buy almost all of DS baby clothes on Vinted

violetskypurple · 12/04/2023 00:19

I have over £200 pending in my Vinted balance atm and that's all from selling DDs clothes!

violetskypurple · 12/04/2023 00:20

Also bought DC2 (due in July) entire wardrobe for first few months on Vinted although that was mainly stuff with new with tags or hardly worn

trrk · 12/04/2023 06:12

I’ve brought toys and baby clothes on Vinted but only as bundles otherwise the postage is not worth it. It always annoys me to see items being sold for £1 but the postage and fees add up to £3-4. I prefer it to Facebook marketplace for selling too as it always makes me a bit uncomfortable to have strangers come to the house to pick stuff up.

Passthewine45 · 12/04/2023 07:08

Yes, vinted is great because you can create a bundle. Often I'll buy multiple items from 1 seller to save on postage. I've bought a bundle of second hand kids books as well as clothes. The only negative is the last time I bought stuff I used the locker delivery service and out of 10 parcels only one turned up but hopefully that's a temporary blip.

WooWooWinnie · 12/04/2023 07:10

Nearly all our baby’s clothes come from Vinted these days! So much stuff is barely used and then we barely use it either before it’s grown out of. Means we can dress her in nicer brands than we would otherwise be able to afford and have also got some great bundles of leggings and tops for nursery.

Lcb123 · 12/04/2023 07:12

Yes definitely- I have no idea why you’d buy anything new for baby. Try FB marketplace as well for local selling, or there are fairs where you can sell 2nd hand stuff

Gondala · 12/04/2023 07:13

Yes, I both buy and sell on vinted. Some I've bought for nursery and some new with tags. I've even bought myself brand new dresses at a fraction of the price. Easy to sell kids stuff as long as the price is right. Vinted sorts out postage for you. You can sell/buy bundles on there too.

DarlingG · 12/04/2023 07:14

I think there used to be a bit of a snobby attitude towards second hand clothing but probably due to the financial situation for most people just now it has become completely normalised to buy things on there. My friend has always bought her kids toys on Facebook but bought new clothes. Just in the last two months I’ve started selling and buying on vinted. I’ve made over £300 with all the old clothes I had. We’re having another baby and I’ve bought a few baby things as well as stuff for my toddler, it just comes off your balance so doesn’t cost you anything out your bank if you’ve got money on it. I’d say list everything quite cheap (a couple of £) and put some bundles of summer stuff, winter stuff etc in different sizes to save adding each one

Omg i used the lockers for a big lot I had and I had someone who bought a massive bundle but it’s never shown as even having been collected so I’m guessing I’m going to have to refund them and get bad feedback

BertieBotts · 12/04/2023 07:25

Yes clothes, though not if priced too high, and no to toys.

I like that they let you see similar items that have sold and for what price as this is useful.

I wish they had a unisex option for baby clothes - in Germany it used to be run by another company and they did.

Upload in bits and bobs though organise by size if possible. Your stuff gets "bumped" every time you upload, so if you upload 20 things at once, whoever is online during that hour or so will see them, but nobody else will. If you upload 2 things a couple of times a day, your stuff will get shown to various people over the 10 day period, which is a much wider audience.

If everything you have is shuffled and you can't sort for size it's helpful to use hashtags e.g. #BertieBotts36 for 3-6 months.

The way sizing is labelled on their system is very stupid so ensure you include a photo of the size label or say the real size in the listing. If it fits differently to the stated size, list as the smaller of the two, e.g. if it's 12-18 months but fits small, list as 9-12 but explain in the description.

BertieBotts · 12/04/2023 07:31

I find you can charge more on Vinted than you would at a car boot or FB bundle, so it's good for sellers as well.

Scroobydoo · 13/04/2023 19:43

Yes yes yes - most of DDs clothes are from vinted or charity shops. I'm not paying through the nose for nursery clothes to get wrecked, or if an occasion, nice outfits which usually have only been worn once or twice anyway if second hand.

Moonshine160 · 13/04/2023 20:31

I buy loads from Vinted, for the DC and for me!

All my kids clothes (DS6 and DD6 months) are from vinted. I sell and buy from there for everything except school uniform and clothes. This morning I've gone through my sons closet, listed everything that he's going to outgrown and I'm now buying the next size up.

This month I've made around £500? Granted I've sold a bunch of animal crossing cards and a DS!

Speakerbox · 25/08/2023 09:01

I bought almost all baby clothes for dc no2 from Vinted. Saved us a small fortune! Also bought lots of toys from there for both dcs. Only stuff in very good condition.
