Period products for slightly-built girls

Hi, for reasons beyond anyone's control (please don't ask) I may not be around when my 11 year old starts her periods. It's probably best not left to her lovely Dad, so I am trying to get some kit in advance. I think I get that girls need to be a minimum weight before they start, but she is likely to still be very slender. She is nowhere near any physical signs of puberty at the moment. I am thinking of a variety of things she can try, including period pants but wonder if there are any small enough to fit - her waist is still about 21-22 inches and hasn't shifted much for years. Ideally simple stuff that she doesn't need to ask anyone about if she doesn't want to. I would of course try to talk her through it once I have the kit, but it might not make much sense to her at the moment. And any websites or other sources that she can turn to? We have already talked about the biology, and as I write this I am very aware of the many other topics around puberty I may need to think about as well - any thoughts on those? She is in some ways a young Y6 and so far is absolutely not interested in boys, make-up etc, still believing in the Scandi Big Fella in Red, bless her, which was just fine by me until I realised there's going to be some advance work to do when she probably isn't at all interested! Thanks so much - and Happy Easter. Apologies if I might not reply to any responses: it won't mean I'm not grateful but there's a lot going on at the moment.

DD is pretty slim and had a 21ish inch waist when she started her periods. We have found the sizing in the teen range in Modibodi to be good. I think DD was in age 8-10 or something to begin with and that worked well for a very skinny 13 year old.

Best of luck to you, @Demelzaza, and I hope you are around for much longer than you think.

Random post op, but a while ago I dealt with a customer wanting to prepare her daughter's 18th birthday present know g she wasn't going to be there.

The customer had written a cheque to her daughter and signed it, dated it, as she wanted her 18th gift to be from mum.

In reality we knew the cheque would be too old to bank, but it was a joint account with her husband, and once her dd has opened her card and sern the cheque, written and signed by mum, dated while she was alive, dad would then coy tersign it, ambmendctnevsate and initial it so the cheque could be paid.

Whatever battles you have to face in the future I wish you well.

Thank you, Haerrison, for some reason this got me a bit misty-eyed but in a good way x

Good advice here but also it's worth thinking about women your dd could speak to about these things, grandmother, aunt, family friend etc. I took my dd and her friend shopping for first bras - she had lost her mum and was too embarrassed to go with her dad, he was so grateful as it was simply not a product he understood and just a year after loosing his wife it was tough anyway

Hi @Demelzaza I also have a v skinny 11 year old. I can't help on the period side yet but I did buy her the Dr Emily book (Peter Andre's wife) and I think it's very good at explaining things. I'd previously brought others and thrown them away. Good luck.

Natracare pads are bleach and plastic free (available online) so I find them more comfortable than the leading brands.

I'd also have a look at reusable pads etc. I think these will become more the norm alongside period pants.

And teach her how to use the washing machine so she can clean items herself if she wants/ needs to?

Yes, perhaps knowing how to get blood out of clothing or making sure they someone will show her. I hadn't thought of this but it's always a good skill to have.
