Twins development

I have 4 year old twin girls. DT1 is very small for her age, isn’t on the height centile charts and is currently under an endocrinologist, however since having her tonsils & adenoids removed she’s come on leaps & bounds.

DT2 is quite a bit taller. She is very creative, amazing with numbers and letters and really turns her hand to most things.

I know all children are different, but honestly I couldn’t have had 2 different children if I’d have tried.

DT1 has personality oozing out of her. She’s very funny, a real entertainer. She’s also infuriatingly independent at times. She is wilful, stubborn and pushes back on everything I ask her to do. She can’t concentrate on anything for more than 10-15 minutes.

they’ve just got bikes for their birthday. DT2 is a natural and she just gets it. DT1 refuses to peddle for more than a few seconds and then cries that she’s not in the lead. She is capable but won’t put the work in as she gets fed up so quickly.

did anyone else have children like this? Not just twins, but it would definitely be interesting to hear from fellow twin mums to see if their DC were the same

Even identical twins develop differently and have different personalities it's not all genes

Sorry maybe I should have worded it slightly differently.

in the examples I gave would you have any concerns about DT1? The lack of concentration, she never mastered the scooter or balance bike. I was hoping that the bike with stabilisers would suit her much better. With cars that you sit on and propel with your legs she’s very good

Did DT1 have sleep apnea when she had her tonsil and adenoid issues? Apparently that can affect concentration levels but it is supposed to get better when the tonsils and adenoids are sorted.

Yea she had appalling sleep apnea, she was down for an urgent op after seeing the consultant for the first time. she also had grommets fitted which has helped her hearing significantly. She had the op in September last year so a good 6 months has passed.

I have 5yo identical twin girls,
They have always been the same size but do learn things at different paces and have some very different interests.

For example at the park, t1 will be looking for bugs or playing fairies and could spend hours just wandering about near the trees, wheras t2 will be rocketing across the monkey bars and swinging and practicing cartwheels.
T1 is also more likely to befriend other random children and t2 more likely to play with their other sister or on her own.
T2 is physically a bit stronger and faster than her sister now- i think as a result of how they play, and t1 is more focussed and has a longer attention span.

T1 learnt to ride a bike a few months earlier than t2 but t2 learnt to rollerskate earlier
They learnt to speak pretty much in sync but t2 started reading earlier.

It is interesting watching them change over time, in some ways not just their physical appearance, they are so similar- they both love the same books and they play together so well and have the same tastes in food and drinks but then are also as individual as any siblings can be.
