Napping for 22 month old

I know there are loads of posts about what age to drop daytime nap, etc, and I'm in two minds about it. My son has always been difficult to get to sleep- I still breastfeed him to sleep, then put him in his cot next to our bed. On average he takes an hour to get to sleep at night. On days when he hasn't napped, he falls asleep straight away. But he is tired in the daytime. He takes about 30 minutes to get to sleep at around 12.30, and will sleep for 2 hours. Then bedtime is more like 9. In some ways I feel it's just the way he is and he still needs the nap, but it makes bedtime harder work. I don't want to drop the nap too soon. If it was too soon would that effect him negatively in some way? Damage his brain or hinder his development? Yes I ama first time mum and I know feeding to sleep is often frowned upon so I might get slated for creating these 'bad habits' but that's just the way we've done things, and gone with it. Thank you!

Could it be your toddler needs a longer wake window after his nap? Could you try and cap his nap and see if that helps? My 21 month old still breastfeed to sleep still so no judgement there at all!

DS is the same age. We restrict his nap to 1.5 hours max, usually slightly less. Always wake him at 2ish no matter what time he's gone to sleep.
He NEEDS a nap, cannot cope all day without one but if he sleeps later than 2.15, he's not ready for bed at 7.
He can take half an hour or so to fall asleep at 7, just plays in his cot with his fave teddy and talks to it, but then sleeps through to 7.30/8am.

My DD is the same age and bf, she will usually nap 1.30 - 2.30ish then goes up to bed at 7ish but takes up to an hour to get to sleep. DD is fed to sleep too. Like previous posters I would say cap the nap and see if that helps.

Mine is the same age and also fed to sleep. A completely normal thing to do and what I’ve done with all my children.

Try waking him up earlier and bring the nap forward. Cap it at an hour or an hour and a half max. If it’s earlier I’m the day he likely won’t be as tired so easier to wake.

DD1 is the same age and we wake her by 14.30 at the very latest. She is usually asleep by 20.00 and awake at around 7.15am next morning. I agree with pp - don't drop the nap but cap it so that there is a longer afternoon wake window. We also try to get outside in the afternoon on non-nursery days (either garden or park) for some fresh air and a long tiring walk!!

Thank you everyone! I will try cutting down the nap😊
