Hi all. New to MumsNet so apologies if simulate has already answered.
My ex and I separated / divorced 5 / 4 years ago respectively.
Our child (14 yrs) lives with me since separation 24/7 and sees my ex for 2-4 hours per week. This verbal arrangement has been going well, with no issues, until recently.
My ex is pressurising child to spend more time with new partner and her children. my child isn’t keen to do this, as they are much younger and he doesn’t have anything in common with them, he just wants to spend time with his Dad.
Can my child refuse to spend time with Dads new family? Can Dad force child to spend time with them?
Dad isn’t listening to child’s wishes or reasons.
Thanks

No he can't force it. Dad would be best to continue to see ds the Sam but maybe invite him to specific events. So a family meal or day trip out. But equally he needs to understand teens are not all ways that fussed for spending time with their parents and dads new family he barely knows so it's understandable he's not that interested.

Yes, you son can decide, but you need to be careful not to encourage your dc to not see his dad as that could be considered parental alienation. At 14 he needs to clearly communicate to his father what he would like, and I suggest you encourage him to see his dad's partners and child for instance monthly to show willing.
