8 month old sick every night for a week - please help

My little boy has just turned 8 months and since Thursday, he’s been sick every single night. He’s had loose nappies in the day and poos through his clothes without fail at night at least once. In the day, he’s off his food but otherwise happy and seems well. Having lots of milk and plenty of wet nappies.

Sleep’s absolutely gone to shit - wakes now 45 - 2hrs after going to bed. Wants to be fed. When he’s fed, he’ll poo, vomit, and then be wide awake. He’s been awake now since 9:30 and we’re on our second change of clothes. He’s screaming and inconsolable.

Previously weaning had gone well, now he’s been off his food since being ill. He’s lost weight. Spoke to the GP today who said he’s not concerned and to just monitor it over the coming weeks but we cannot have this every night. He’s clearly in pain with his tummy and will not settle. He’s not slept more than two hours at a time for almost a week and looks pale and red eyed.

Im going to go back to the GP tomorrow because I’m so so worried about him. Does anyone have any ideas what this is? What can I do to help him tonight? I’m desperate.

Oh god OP - I’m so sorry. I have no words of advice. Sounds like you are doing the right thing by going back to the GP. Hand holding for you and a hug xxx

Hope you're ok. Sometimes it takes a baby what seems like forever to shake a bug off but he'll turn a corner soon. The wet nappies are a good sign and the fact he's still talking in milk. Don't worry about the weaning, it's still early days and he doesn't need regular solids yet, mainly milk. The solids will come gradually and by the time he's one he'll easily be on 3 meals.

Thank you - he eventually got down and slept til 5 which is something. It seems easier to put into perspective when you’re not trapped in a dark room with a screaming baby covered in sick!

Spoke to the GP and HV and neither are worried. Nursery are keeping a food diary for him. Hopefully it’s just a lingering bug 🤞

When my DC was like this for days the GP checked a stool sample and it was campylobacter. I’m surprised nursery haven’t said he needs to be at home?

@User17865 Thank you - I’ll def go again if it happens again tonight. Was it just once a day rather than vomiting all the time?

He’s been at home, but I’ve kept them updated and they suggested we all keep track of what he eats - his dad and dad’s family all have coeliac’s disease so wondering whether that might be at play. GP doesn’t seem to think so though.

I don’t know why GP’s don’t like to test for Coeliac! It was occasional vomiting and loads of loose nappies. She was happy enough though. Pharmacist told me off for not taking her to see the GP sooner but I was going off the NHS website that said to wait a week or whatever it says.

@User17865 I know! It would be useful to rule out if nothing else given the history.

Sounds very similar - did it clear up on its own or require antibiotics?

Managed to see the doctor again today after everything he’s eaten has gone literally straight through him a matter of minutes later. She wasn’t worried either but put ‘pale and skinny’ on his notes ☹️ She’s also requested bloods for coeliacs.

That’s good news that blood tests are being done. Hopefully you will get some answers.
